Dan Clark Audio Corina Reference Electrostatic Headphones Unveiled

Dan Clark Audio's Corina flagship electrostatic headphones will even work well with Electronica and Rock, boasts the brand.

Dan Clark Audio (DCA) says its Corina Reference Electrostatic headphones take “electrostatic musicality into a future of fun.”

Corina is the follow-up to the much-loved Voce electrostatics launched by the brand before the name change. During its design Dan Clark and the team set out to advance the performance of what it has done before while taking inspiration from DCA's current top-level products.

Corina is fitted with 88mm drivers, which boast a new tensioning system that increases diaphragm tension and tension uniformity for more consistent, better-matched drivers to ensure the highest consistency between units. We are told that these drivers are carefully matched to ensure excellent soundstage and imaging.

The team are rightly proud of what they achieved with Expanse, especially its sonically enveloping soundstage. However, that is only part of its charm, as Expanse not only throws an enormous soundstage but also renders instruments and voices with a sense of physical size and presence. Indeed, in our review, we stated, “Dynamics were very well conveyed, giving a great appreciation of the physicality of the instruments.” This makes for a more lifelike feel than headphones with soundstage typically convey.

So, while Voce broke the mould as far as how an electrostatic can sound, Corina promises a wider and deeper soundstage, a more muscular bottom end and a smoother, richer midrange in a similar vein to Expanse, we expect. Dan Clark Audio tells us, “Corina delivers a fun yet lifelike tone with sumptuous vocals and bass that really kicks.” This is undoubtably thanks to the company's Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System.

Corina is the first electrostatic design to feature AMTS tech and, we're told, produces a significantly smoother frequency response throughout the midrange and high frequencies, free of annoying “peaks and holes” for a smoother, more complete, accurate, and enjoyable listening experience. Dan Clark Audio adds that the result is “the most natural midrange we’ve heard in an electrostatic to date.”

Moreover, and unlike many electrostatics, Corina is said to pair well with electronica and rock. The frequency response on the spec sheet is listed as “Yes (flat to 6Hz)”, in typical Dan Clark fashion.

Corina tips the scales at 465g and sports the new self-tensioning titanium alloy headband design from DCA's flagship Stealth and Expanse headphones. Additionally, Corina comes with new ear pads and should be incredibly comfortable and a hassle-free fit.

The final touch is the striking industrial design we've come to expect from Dan Clark. Corina is presented in a new grey finish and an eye-catching sculpted grill design.

The Dan Clark Audio Corina is priced at £4,800 and will start shipping before the end of March 2023, with orders being accepted now. The Voce remains available, priced at £3,300.
