Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M Announced
Cambridge Audio announces the successor to its DacMagic Plus - The DacMagic 200M.
DacMagic 200M is Cambridge Audio's new top-of-the-range DAC (digital-to-analogue converter) and headphone amplifier. Boasting a raft of features, including MQA support, integrated Bluetooth, a more powerful headphone output, and many LED indicators.
At the DacMagic 200M's heart, you'll find dual ESS Sabre ES9028Q2M DACs that can handle PCM and DSD signal inputs at a higher resolution than before – up to 32-bit/768kHz (PCM) and DSD512 natively.
The dual-mono configuration means each DAC processes the left and right channels separately. Switchable digital filters offer further flexibility and control over your listening experience.
The DacMagic 200M is Cambridge Audio's first product to support MQA files natively and will fully decode and convert these when listening to TIDAL Master tracks, for example.
Class A/B amplification powers the fascia-mounted 6.3mm headphone output with a quoted < 0.001% at 1kHz 0dBFS @ 100mW into 32ohm THD+N and 32 Ohm to 600 Ohm recommended headphone impedance.
Additionally, connections around the rear include twin coaxial (up to 24-bit/192kHz) and optical (up to 24-bit/96kHz) inputs meaning that you'll probably run out of sources, including CD players, games consoles and Blu-ray players, before input options.
There's also a USB type-B socket (32-bit/768kHz, DSD512) for laptops and such, as well as balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analogue connections. Finally, aptX thanks to Bluetooth 5.0 takes care of the wireless option.
Measuring just 52 x 215 x 191mm and available in a sleek, minimal Lunar Grey finish, the DacMagic 200M will fit neatly and discreetly into any space. Its compact footprint means it can be placed within an existing audio set-up, on your desk in your home office, or on your TV rack.
Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M is priced £449/ €499 and will be available from February 2021.
