Bowers & Wilkins Promises Abbey Road Studio Sound In-Car

Two iconic names in British music recording and reproduction, Abbey Road Studios and Bowers & Wilkins, plan to transform in-car audio.

Abbey Road Studios and Bowers & Wilkins have announced what they describe as “a new phase” of their partnership. This pair of iconic audio brands are collaborating to explore and enhance the in-car audio experience.

The two brands started working together in 2018 when Abbey Road adopted the 800 Series Diamond D3 loudspeakers in Studios One, Two and Three, plus The Gatehouse and The Front Room - the two new studios opened in 2017. Since then, Bowers & Wilkins has been the studio's official headphone and speaker partner.

We're told that Abbey Road Studios has spent the past five years exploring future music technologies, including machine learning and spatial audio, via its music-tech innovation arm Abbey Road Red.

While the likes of Sonus faber, McIntosh and Naim are relative newcomers to in-car audio, Bowers & Wilkins has been perfecting the art of bringing leading-edge loudspeaker technology to automobiles with the likes of BMW, McLaren and Volvo.

Now, the two brands are pulling their combined expertise to bring Abbey Road Studios' unique acoustic personality to the in-car experience for the first time. They underline that this will result in “offering unparalleled sound quality while remaining respectful to the original recording.”

Dan Shepherd, Director of Automotive Partnerships from Bowers & Wilkins, told StereoNET:

We are thrilled to work with Abbey Road Studios on our shared mission to elevate the in-car experience and bring drivers and passengers across the globe a new and exciting way to enjoy their music.

Jeremy Huffelmann, General Manager, Abbey Road Studios, added:

We are delighted to be extending the remit of our partnership with Bowers & Wilkins to co-develop our offering in the automotive sector. Through our shared passion for creative excellence and the highest quality audio, we will be exploring technologies to further the goal of creating the most accurate listening experiences possible for consumers.
