WiiM MOD A80 Streaming Pre and MOD S Streamer Revealed

WiiM looks to disrupt the custom install market with MOD A80 and MOD S streamers.

WiiM is already making a name for itself, picking up Applause Awards for its Pro Plus and Ultra products, and now it's looking to do the same in the custom install market.

If you are planning a custom-installed home audio system, you might want to check out the latest player. Already making waves with its highly regarded and keenly-priced streaming offerings, WiiM has announced the WiiM CI MOD A80 streaming amplifier and WiiM CI MOD S standalone streamer.

Pop the bonnet of the MOD A80, and you will find 60W per channel (8 ohms) of TI TPA3255 Class-D amplification partnered with an ESS ES9018K2M SABRE Reference DAC. The MOD A80 is wireless thanks to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Meanwhile, cabled options include RCA, optical and HDMI ARC inputs good for up to 24-bit/192 kHz, plus a subwoofer output.

The MOD S audiophile-grade streamer is based on the WiiM Pro Plus and employs an AKM AK4493SEQ DAC with high-res audio support up to 24-bit/192kHz. Again, there is no shortage of ins and outs, amongst which you'll find analogue RCA Line input, SPDIF Optical input, RCA Line output, Digital optical (SPDIF) output, Digital Coaxial output, plus dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, and ethernet.

These new CI products offer built-in room correction, bass management, and 24 genre-based EQ settings. A ten-band graphic equaliser allows further tweaking.

Naturally, there is ample support for all the popular streaming services in addition to the expected CI control protocols, including Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify, Amazon, Control 4, RTI, URC, and Josh.ai.

Finally, both are rack-mountable, with racks available separately.

We have no doubt that these will make quite an impact in the CI world, and we look forward to the pricing details being revealed later this year.
