VPI Avenger Direct Turntable Officially Released
VPI's new Avenger Direct marries the New Jersey company's direct-drive technology with an Avenger Series chassis to create a precise, versatile, high-performance turntable.
VPI's Avenger Direct turntable was spotted in a few rooms at High End Munich 2022, and we've just got the news that it is now available in some markets.
The Avenger Direct has cherry-picked technology from its American-made stablemates to bring them together in what looks to be a user-friendly reference-level turntable. Firstly, the direct-drive system is the same as that used in the VPI HW-40 Anniversary turntable and hands you 33⅓ and 45 RPM functionality at the press of a beautifully engineered button, 2.68 Nm/ sec motor torque, and a claimed one-second start/ stop time.
Meanwhile, the Avenger Direct's substantial chassis consisting three layers of bonded acrylic/aluminium/acrylic, with damping material between layers, locked in by three isolation steel corner posts, three bolts, and a massive bearing assembly sits on the pneumatic suspension feet of VPI's Titan turntable. Additionally, those corner posts hold up to two extra tonearms and have adjustable machined knobs allowing you to quickly raise and lower the height to level the table.
The Avenger Direct comes loaded with a VPI Fatboy gimbal tonearm wired with Nordost Reference cable and also features self-correcting speed accuracy (quoted 2,500 pulses/ revolution speed monitoring), which, together with the Fatboy's on-the-fly VTA calibration precision, ensures that a high-performance setup is easier than ever.
Fully adjustable armboards are made from 5/8-inch 6061 aluminium for rigidity and grounding, and the aluminium platter weighs in at 11kg.
John Carroll, owner of VPI's UK and Ireland distributor, Renaissance Audio, told StereoNET:
The Avenger Direct is a carefully designed turntable featuring premium technologies from the VPI portfolio. Its smooth operation, outstanding performance and versatility will ensure that it is popular with our vinyl-loving customers.
The Avenger Direct measures 55.9cm x 43.2cm x 25.4cm and tips the scales at 27kg in total.
The VPI Avenger Direct is available now for an RRP of US$36,000.
