UltraGold MC Cartridge from MoFi Announced
Mobile Fidelity complements its MM range with a new audiophile MC design.
Precision crafted in Japan and voiced by Spiral Groove founder Allen Perkins, the UltraGold MC promises analogue lovers an extensive frequency response (20 Hz – 35 kHz), alongside the tonal richness, lifelike separation, and true-to-the-source faithfulness of a class-leading audiophile MC design.
The MoFi UltraGold MC sports a nude Shibata diamond profile stylus and boron cantilever with a neodymium magnet and Permendur yoke, housed in an ultra-low resonance aluminium/brass extrusion. The result, we are told, is delivery of palpable low-end energy, high transient responsiveness, and compelling openness and transparency from vinyl discs. The output voltage is quoted as being 0.4mV.
The 7.3g UltraGold MC features a threaded cartridge body and so can be mounted to a headshell or integral tonearm with just two screws: no bolts or nuts required. Once fitted, MoFi recommends a 1.8-2.2g tracking force.
The MobileFidelity UltraGold MC cartridge is available from November and will sell for US$1,495.
