Tivoli Audio’s Smart Music Systems Get The Gen 2 Treatment
Tivoli Audio has announced three new models that it hopes will be chic and impressive enough to push them ahead in an already competitive arena. Does the American brand's Generation 2 Music System Home, Gen 2 Model One Digital, and new Model One+ DAB radio have what it takes?
A quick look over the new Tivoli systems' spec sheets, and instantly, we can tick off Google Chromecast and Apple Airplay 2 built-in. This means that Wi-Fi streaming is aboard alongside DAB/FM radio and Bluetooth. Additionally, Tivoli's Gen 2 models will stream audio from all Airplay 2 and Google Chromecast supported apps such as Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Tidal, Deezer, Pandora, TuneIn etc. So, no extra app to download and get the hang of.
Meanwhile, the new Model One+ adds DAB/DAB+ to the experience of its original and world-famous Model One radio.
Furthermore, all three of these latest models are available in the three real wood finishes. Music System Home and Model One Digital Gen 2 come in Black Ash/Black; Walnut/Grey, White/Grey. The Model One+ is offered in Walnut/Beige, Grey/White, Oak/Black finishes.
Mid-century interior styling is very in vogue right now, making the Tivoli Music System Home Generation 2 (US$849.99) extremely 'now' in the fashion stakes. This substantial yet portable all-in-one stereo music system features a fusion of eco-friendly fabric, a sealed furniture grade wood cabinet and aluminium panels front and back.
Inside, you get a four-driver configuration of a pair of 3.5-inch woofers and a brace of 0.75-inch tweeters driven by four dedicated amplifiers (2 x 8W + 2 x 20W).
The push/rotary dials on either side of the display take care of source selection, playback control, and volume. When not streaming app-based services via Wi-Fi, you can utilise the nav controls and presets on the bundled remote handset.
Also, there is an optical input as well as a 3.5mm aux input. Rounding things off is an ethernet port for a more consistent connection for streaming and firmware updates.
If you're looking for something more compact, then the Model One Digital Generation 2 (US$349.99) could be just the thing.
As well as the connectivity via the popular streaming apps and built-in support for Chromecast and Airplay, there is also Bluetooth and a choice of FM/DAB radio. While the 3.5mm aux input will connect wired audio devices.
Again, eco-friendly fabric and a sealed furniture-grade wood cabinet are partnered with an aluminium fascia and controls.
Here, a class A-B amp drives a single long-throw 3.5-inch full-range driver with control coming via your smart device, the push/rotary controls, or system remote handset.
Finishing off the new trio is the classic design of the Model One+ (~US$259) bringing Tivoli's radio heritage together with the convenience of DAB tuning convenience you also get the brand's signature handmade ported wood cabinet.
A single large tuning dial joins source select, and volume controls on the front and buttons for five presets and scanning. In addition, the Model One+ offers DAB/DAB+/FM radio as well as Bluetooth connectivity. For wired listening, there is an auxiliary line input and headphone output.
Sound is dished out by a single top-firing, long-throw, DSP controlled driver. Finally, the Model One+ is supplied with a remote, allowing access to additional features, such as alarm clock and display settings.
All three models are available from July 2021.
