Sony HT-A5000 5.1.2 Soundbar Announced

Sony's HT-A5000 is a 5.1.2 channel soundbar that aims to bring the cinema to your living room thanks to some spatial sorcery that's said to simulate “vertical” audio.

The HT-A5000 is Sony's latest soundbar and sports built-in dual subs, specially designed X-Balanced front-facing speakers and two up-firing speakers that work in concert with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support, further bolstered with Sony's special signal processing.

The new soundbar also boasts DSEE Extreme (a feature that uses Edge-AI to upscale compressed digital files in real-time), along with support for 360 Reality Audio from services such as Amazon Music HD, Deezer, and TIDAL.

We're told to expect the same treatment from this soundbar as produced by dedicated in-ceiling speakers. This achievement is assisted by the company's S-Force PRO Front Surround that utilises the front X-Balanced Speaker Unit and dedicated sound field processing tech to virtually recreate an immersive horizontal sound field, apparently.

Sony's Sound Field Optimisation uses built-in microphones to measure the height and width of a room (as well as determine the position of the optional sub and rear speakers), which should take any head-scratching moments away from setting up and calibrating the system. Finally, there is also HDMI eARC, Optical-in and a USB port for hardwiring your components. Additionally, you can add the soundbar to your speaker group using the Google Home app, enabling you to control the HT-A5000 via your Google Assistant device. It also supports Amazon's Alexa.

The Sony HT-A5000 has an RRP of around US$900 when it lands in stores early in 2022.
