Sennheiser IE 200 IEMs Promise Affordable High-End Performance
Sennheiser's IE 200 earphones aim to bring its high-end in-ear monitor know-how to an even more accessible price point.
It's been two years since Sennheiser introduced the IE 300, and now the personal audio specialist has launched the IE 200, which benefits from the trickle-down tech of the firm's premium IE models while pushing the cost of entry even lower. Jermo Koehnke, Sennheiser's audiophile product manager, puts it as an “open invitation for everyone to enjoy high-end sound”.
We're told that the IE 200 features the company's 7mm extra-wide band transducer, as enjoyed by the IE 300. Although, we're still determining if these are exactly the same drivers or if the IE 300 benefits from additional tweaks. That said, Sennheiser's extra-wide band driver is used in all the IE models, including the IE 600 and IE 900, so we're expecting good things, as the IE 200 should inherit at least some of the qualities of its pricier stablemates.
To that end, Sennheiser boasts that harmonic distortion is “almost non-existent” in the IE 200's presentation and that the natural frequency response curve is of that typically found in earbuds “costing significantly more”.
The company has also used its experience to tackle the one-size-fits-all approach of universal earbuds. Here, Sennheiser has designed the IE 200 so you can mount the included ear tips in one of two positions, offering you more control over your audio experience – “from deep and emotional bass response to texture-rich treble presence”, says the brand.
You also get Viscoelastic foam and silicone ear adapters in multiple sizes that promise to block out ambient distractions while maximising low-end response.
Finally, a revised, braided cable is included, designed to further reduce cable noise. This is terminated with 3.5mm stereo plugs and MMCX connectors.
The Sennheiser IE 200 is priced only at US$149.95 | S$219 and is available now.
