Samsung Announces Practical Modular Micro LED TVs

Samsung's Micro LED TV tech gets even smaller; also, 2023 Neo QLED and Qauntum Dot OLED TVs revealed.

Samsung is introducing new models of its Micro LED TVs, which range in size from 50 to 140 inches and promise to be bezel-less and customisable thanks to their modular nature.

A 50-inch set would become the brand's smallest Micro LED model and would hopefully be a step towards a more affordable price and more room-friendly proposition for the average punter, unlike the previous 110-inch offering.

Micro LEDs are a big deal as, like OLEDs, they're self-emitting - don't need backlighting. However, instead of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), they use tiny, non-organic LEDs. The upshot is that Micro LEDs are brighter than OLEDs, last longer and are cheaper to run.

NEO QLED

The Neo QLED 8K and 4K televisions will use Samsung's Neural Quantum Processor supporting Quantum Mini LED-lit TV with 14-bit processing and AI upscaling, with features such as Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro to create a more three-dimensional and lifelike picture.

Samsung's 2023 Neo QLEDs also boast a high-resolution panel and the company's proprietary algorithm that power its new Auto HDR Remastering. We're told that AI deep learning technology analyses and applies real-time High Dynamic Range (HDR) effects on Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) content on a scene-by-scene basis, making SDR content brighter and livelier for absolute immersion.

The SmartThings platform will also be directly built into Samsung products, so there is no need for a SmartThings dongle to connect and control Zigbee and Thread devices; this also allows for easy control of third-party appliances and internet of things devices.

Cheolgi Kim, EVP of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, told StereoNET:

In 2023, we are pushing boundaries of innovation to offer consumers more than just premium picture quality but a holistic, premium device experience tailored to what they need and want out of their connected home. With SmartThings, our advanced technology is seamless and intuitive, making life more sustainable, accessible and enjoyable every day.

QUANTUM DOT OLED

The company is also releasing new sizes for its OLED TV lineup, including a 77-inch model with Quantum Dot technology and Neural Quantum Processors to improve brightness and colour representation.

The OLED TVs will also come with a 144Hz refresh rate, smart features such as the Samsung Gaming Hub, and AMD's FreeSync Premium Pro certification for improved gaming.

In addition, Samsung is offering Samsung TV Plus, a free ad-supported TV and video-on-demand service, on all of its Smart TVs. Samsung TV Plus offers over 1,800 channels in 24 countries and is available on 465 million devices.

We expect to get more details from Samsung, including model specs and prices, nearer to shipping time.
