MSB Announces M205 Mono Amplifier
MSB is following up on the apparent success of its S202 Stereo Amplifier with the M205 monoblock power amps.
MSB Technology's M205 mono amplifier is said to refine the S202's performance with an upgraded input stage while doubling the power supply transformers and capacitors. Furthermore, it keeps to the S202's compact dimensions.
The chassis is CNC machined in the California-based company's factory from huge billets of aluminium. According to the spec sheet, this high-efficiency design provides a surface area of over 3,000 in² per amplifier. In addition, high-power heat pipes distribute heat evenly for optimal thermal and electrical performance.
Boasting two massive custom low-noise high-current toroidal transformers and “rugged high-current output buffers”, the M205's promise to provide 200W of fatigue-free transparent, holographic listening experience.
Using trickle-down tech from the M500, the M205 features a discrete design with a Class-A matched impedance input stage. We are told that this results in a product with minimised signal reflections, input noise, and distortion while also maximising power transfer and dynamic range in a zero negative feedback design. Additionally, MSB says that all components were meticulously chosen for their sonic performance and longevity, ensuring your amplifier is built to last.
The M205's are equipped with simple, user-friendly control interfaces. Intuitive pushbuttons, remote commands, and the 12V triggers guarantee control over power and standby modes. Further control of amplifiers “power on” timers and soft-start circuits allow a multi-amplifier system to power up without putting strain on your listening room's electrical system.
The M205's dual outputs make it ideal for a bi-amped system. Furthermore, multiple ground posts enable EMI reduction strategies, including shielded cables and system star grounds.
The MSB M205 is available in matte silver or matte black anodised finish, with the manufacturer noting that any audiophile M6X1 foot can be installed to optimise your system. The RRP for the M205, is €68,000.
Upgrades: Current owners of the S202 Stereo Amplifier are welcome to send their units in to be upgraded to an M205 Mono Amplifier set. Please discuss with your local dealer to organise this upgrade option.
