McIntosh’s MX123 AV Processor Upgraded to 8K
McIntosh's MX123 A/V processor gets an 8K upgrade, including onboard upscaling and a host of new features.
The McIntosh MX123 A/V processor was launched in October 2019 with 4K/60 Hz compatibility and is superseded by the all-new 8K/60 Hz supporting MX123. So naturally, the new unit will still play nice with 4K/120 Hz video resolutions and refresh rates. Furthermore, the updated MX123 can upscale lower resolutions to 8K.
The MX123 boasts ten HDMI inputs and outputs; one of the inputs and two outputs have 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120Hz support (all 10 will continue to support 4K/60 Hz).
The three HDMI ports that are 8K/60 Hz-compatible also offer such advanced features, including Quick Media Switching (QMS), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
Additionally, all ten HDMI ports support HDCP 2.3; Rec. 2020; 4:4:4 colour spacing; Dynamic Lip-sync; and 3D Video pass-through. All will also now support several high-dynamic-range formats such as HDR (static HDR), Dynamic HDR; HDR10+; HLG; and Dolby Vision (including low latency).
As well as the video upgrades, the MX123 also sports a raft of audio capabilities such as 13.2 audio channels; Dolby Atmos (including Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer); DTS:X Pro; Auro-3D; Sony's 360 Reality Audio; MPEG-H Audio; IMAX Enhanced; eARC/ARC; Apple AirPlay 2; Bluetooth; Spotify Connect and Audyssey MultEQ XT32.
Finally, the McIntosh MX123 is awarded 'Connects with Control4' certification from Control4 and 'Works with Crestron Home' certification from Crestron.
The costing around US$8,000 MX123 8K units will be with dealers soon, and orders are being accepted now. The 4K version of the MX123 is no longer available from McIntosh.
