Linn Selekt DSM: Edition Hub Features Organik Dual-Mono DACs and More

Linn's Selekt DSM product ecosystem introduces the Selekt DSM: Edition Hub featuring several high-performance components.

With the launch of Selekt DSM: Edition Hub, Linn introduces what it calls a "luxurious, superior-quality, and higher performance enclosure variant", while the existing Selekt DSM chassis design launched in 2018 now becomes Selekt DSM: Classic Hub.

Linn Selekt DSM: Edition Hub

Firstly, the modular Edition Hub sports Linn's reference-level DAC architecture - Organik DAC - within its all-machined casement, which, we are told, brings improved rigidity, interior isolation, and elevated aesthetic appeal.

The Selekt DSM: Edition Hub chassis consists of four plates, rigidly affixed using long bolts torqued in for a precise fit and finish. Meanwhile, the primary vent of Edition Hub is precision-cut into its aluminium plate lid with each aperture cut at an angle, and only every second one machined all the way through, forming a "wave motif". This is topped off with an eye-catching control dial boasting a precision, turned stainless steel bearing promising silky, tactile rotation when adjusting volume. The cherry on top has to be the photo-etched steel halo around its edge illuminated by one hundred individual LEDs beneath and the "Clyde Built" epithet.

The fascia of Edition Hub is composed of mirrored spyglass, with the large-format display concealed behind. When required, you are presented with crisp, clear information otherwise, fading to total invisibility when not.

Edition Hub's analogue-to-digital conversion stage accepts anything from turntables to CD players alongside a host of digital connections allowing connection from video streaming devices, games consoles, and Blu-ray players. Additionally, to provide optional bass reinforcement/bass redirect in a stereo system, Edition Hub features stereo RCA line-out connectors designed to feed powered subwoofers. Furthermore, a newly redesigned HDMI Switching Module upgrade (optional) brings eARC capability to Selekt DSM and is also available to order now. Finally, a 1/4-inch headphone jack can be found down the left side, providing Edition Hub with further versatility.

Edition Hub also benefits from Linn's all-new, exceptionally efficient, highly responsive, and precision-regulated power supply design - Utopik - which is available in either natural silver-, or black-anodised finish.

Linn has designed an all-new, line-out cartridge to accommodate Organik in dual-mono configuration within Selekt DSM, with its output stage fully optimised for this reference DAC architecture. Each houses a mono Organik DAC module and delivers the very highest performance attainable by Selekt DSM.

However, Organik is also available optimised as a stereo module, ensuring that existing owners of Selekt DSM too can experience the performance of Linn's latest DAC technology as an upgrade - something we have experienced with the Klimax DSM.

Linn proudly states that Selekt DSM: Edition Hub, featuring stereo Organik DAC, comfortably surpasses the performance benchmark set by Linn's previous-generation Klimax DSM with Katalyst.

Linn Selekt DSM: Edition Hub

Gilad Tiefenbrun, Linn’s CEO, told StereoNET:

Selekt DSM is unique in that it can be easily configured to meet a hi-fi enthusiast's desired performance, chosen application and budget. By broadening the Selekt DSM ecosystem to incorporate even more versatility and performance, we are continuing to make good on our promise to create modular and upgradeable products that grow and evolve during their ownership — products that deliver both musical pleasure and enduring value today and tomorrow.

This news means you can start with a choice of enclosure design, either Classic Hub or the deluxe and higher-performance Edition Hub. Then select your desired DAC performance level of Standard, upgraded to Katalyst, or the peak performance of Organik – before considering how your Selekt DSM will be tailored. The latter depends on whether you want a separates system with Selekt DSM as source-only or a high-performing all-in-one-box product with onboard amps. Perhaps, a fully integrated 5.1 Surround Sound receiver? Whatever it is, Linn says the Selekt DSM is the most configurable digital music player ever.

Linn Selekt DSM: Edition Hub

Orders can now be placed for Selekt DSM: Edition Hub for £9,950. The Selekt DSM: Edition Hub with Dual-Mono Organik DAC configuration (highest performance possible) is £16,955, and the Selekt DSM: Edition Hub with Stereo Organik DAC configuration is £13,660. The Linn Selekt DSM: Classic Hub costs £4,900.

The Stereo Organik DAC is available for £3,250, and the Mono Organik DAC is £3,250 per pair. Mono Line Out Cartridges are £1,500 per pair, and the Stereo Line Out Cartridge is £460.

International pricing has not been announced by the company.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge.
