Goldmund Mimesis Reference Analogue Pre-Amp Joins Swiss Brand’s Elite
Goldmund rounds off the year with the Mimesis Reference Pre-Amplifier, the first time the Swiss high-end brand has released a 'reference' pre.
It's very rare for Goldmund to give their products the 'Reference' tag, and this is the first time they've put it on a pre-amp, putting the new Mimesis Reference Pre-Amplifier in the same hallowed halls as the original Reference turntable and Eidos Reference digital players.
Following the release of the Mimesis Signature Pre-Amplifier, this latest luxury hi-fi component features Class A output stage drivers, it promises the lowest total harmonic distortion (unbalanced input to unbalanced output 0.0002% flat with frequency/ balanced input to balanced output 0.0001% flat with frequency) and intermodulation distortion (unbalanced input to unbalanced output 0.0002%/ balanced input to balanced output 0.0001%) for what the company describes as an "authentic soundscape". We are told that the signal-to-noise ratio on the line input is > 126 dB (0.01Hz - 10 MHz).
The Goldmund Mimesis Reference Pre-Amplifier also boasts a redesigned power supply in a separate 25kg, 16 x 44 x 39 cm (HxWxD) unit featuring custom audio-grade transformers for enhanced channel separation.
The pre-amplifier's heart is purely analogue, with advanced heat dissipation techniques and Goldmund brand components for stable sonic power. Naturally, the new model showcases Goldmund's 'No-screw-design' and durable Mechanical Enclosure, available in silver grey or matte black. Furthermore, just like the recently released Telos 1800 power amp, you can customise the Memisis Reference pre with a gold top left front ring for a touch of sophistication.
Aside from the power connector, black signal grounding post and yellow-green earthing post, connectivity includes a trio of balanced XLRs and seven RCA line inputs. You also get two sets of stereo Tape outputs, alongside three L/R sets of XLR and RCA outputs and an RS232 connector. The power supply also has a signal grounding and earthing post.
The typically clear and minimalist fascia offers controls for Mute and Power, Volume, Balance, Record/ Menu, Phase/ Edit and selection of seven inputs.
The Mimesis Reference Pre-Amplifier is available in Goldmund's classic silver grey or matte black for £137,500. International pricing has not been shared by the company.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
