Goldmund Eidos SACD Player Announced
The new Eidos SACD player from Swiss high-end audio brand Goldmund can play PCM audio formats up to 384KHz/ DSD512.
The Eidos SACD benefits from the same audio card as its big brother, the Eidos Reference, features a new front panel and control keyboard and is based around a D&M SACD mechanism.
We're told that this mechanism is integrated into a Goldmund mechanical grounding system to remove vibrations and Goldmund's damper that increases the rigidity of the loader mechanism, which results in transparency, so says the company.
Furthermore, this can play a variety of disc formats, including SACD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and the equivalent audio DVD formats. Moreover, when connected to a computer via USB, the Eidos SACD supports PCM audio formats up to 384KHz and DSD512. The internal DAC also offers slope solutions of an anti-aliasing digital filter (used before a signal sampler to restrict the bandwidth of a signal to satisfy the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem) implemented into the DAC chip.
Additionally, the new Goldmund Eidos offers a range of outputs, including XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced analogue outs alongside SPDIF, AES EBU, and optical digital audio supporting up to 384 kHz PCM, enabling it to be connected to a wide variety of audio equipment, including a preamplifier, a digital sound processor or an integrated amplifier.
We're told that Goldmund engineers have considered the limited space available in the 20.6kg, 18.3x44x37 cm (HxWxD) device and have devised a shielding solution between the different parts of the Eidos CD/SACD player to “ensure perfect harmonisation and technicality”. Notably, this mitigates the interaction between the audio card and the power supply through a design from Goldmund's Research and Development department.
The result is that the Eidos is claimed to have a signal-to-noise ratio of >128dB and a THD+N of < 0.00018% through the stereo output.
The Goldmund Eidos SACD player is available now for £80,000. International pricing has not been shared by the company.
