Sonus faber Concertino G4 Speakers Sport Italian Style & Eco Cred
Sonus faber blends “heritage and innovation” in its green-thinking Concertino G4 standmounters.
Sonus faber's Concertino G4 two-way standmount loudspeakers continue the legacy of the Italian brand's storied Concertino speaker series. The compact designs promise to “blend heritage and innovation to take audio performance to new heights”.
While Sonus faber is well aware of the range's history, the Concertino G4 utilises advanced acoustic research, cutting-edge materials and technological improvements to build on those successful foundations.
The result is an innovative cork central chassis, which, according to the manufacturer, limits internal resonances and reduces the need for additional damping materials within the cabinet's easily recognisable trapezoidal shape.
High frequencies are presented via a 2.5cm tweeter made using the brand's patented Damped Apex Dome technology, also found in the company's entry-level Lumina range. This tech aims to better control the diaphragm's behaviour, reducing distortion. This is married to a 12.7cm pulp mid-woofer with a rear carved walnut reflex duct.
This is said to give the Concertino G4 a claimed frequency range of 60 -25,000 Hz, with the transducers crossing over at 1,700 Hz. Sensitivity is listed as 85dB and nominal impedance, 4Ω.
Meanwhile, the new speakers get solid walnut wood side walls with ribbed surfaces to further boost the speaker's structural integrity without needing internal bracing. This is then finished with both recycled leather and a plant-based alternative provided by Italian startup Ohoskin to cover the cork structure and front baffle, enabling Sonus faber to offer “luxurious materials with a sustainable focus.”
The first 300 pairs of Concertino G4 will be sold as special Maestro editions, declared by a numbered brass plaque featured on the speaker's side panel.
When released in September, the Sonus Faber Concertino G4 costs $5,000 USD per pair, with the optional stands selling for $1,500 USD per pair.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
