McIntosh MQ112 Environmental Equalizer Launched
McIntosh has announced the launch of its MQ112 Environmental Equalizer, an eight-band stereo equaliser that promises to "transform any home audio space into the ultimate listening experience".
The new MQ112 from McIntosh features analogue equalisation that enables you to adjust audio signal levels by a ±12dB range at 8 critical bands between 25Hz and 10kHz.
McIntosh tells us that "rather than tinkering with room treatments, speaker placement, or even reorganising the entire room to optimise the acoustics" of your system, the MQ112 allows you to "fine-tune the mix and balance of frequencies to craft the ideal sonic profile for any listening space". Furthermore, the company states you can use the MQ112 to "compensate for the imperfections in vintage recordings".
The MQ112 sports balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs, so you can slot it into any hi-fi system and be connected between the preamplifier and power amplifier (balanced or unbalanced) of any audio configuration. Furthermore, thanks to a secondary pair of outputs, you can use the MQ112 in two stereo systems, bi-amped between a single pair of speakers, or up to two subwoofers. Finally, we are told that the MQ112 can also be connected through processor loops or tape monitor record/play connections on many preamplifiers and integrated amplifiers.
McIntosh highlights the TILT knob that allows for a tonal balance shift of ±6dB to boost bass or treble across the entire frequency range, alongside the EQ Control IN and OUT settings that bypass the equaliser circuitry for easy comparison of the EQ output to the original unaltered signal.
McIntosh President Charlie Randall told StereoNET:
The new MQ112 puts McIntosh's powerful EQ capabilities in a standalone unit, giving listeners more options to customise and fine-tune their system's equalisation than ever before. We are excited by the possibilities that the MQ112 offers audio enthusiasts to take control of their sound.
Of course, all the McIntosh design hallmarks are present and correct on the MQ112, such as the illuminated logo, black glass front faceplate, rotary control knobs, and custom-machined aluminium end caps.
The MQ112 will be available through authorised McIntosh dealers beginning October 2023, retailing for $3,000 USD.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
