Karan Acoustics Master Collection Gains POWER Amplifiers

Following on from the LINEa and LINEb preamplifiers, Karan Acoustics has added the highly anticipated POWERa and POWERb stereo and monoblock power amplifiers to the brand's Master Collection.

Karan Acoustic's POWERa and fractionally more attainable POWERb amplifiers boast the build quality and solid-state circuit design one would expect from a high-end manufacturer's Master Collection.

The Serbian specialist's POWERa MONO is a fully-balanced monoblock power amplifier stated as being able to output 2,100 watts into 8 ohms loads. Furthermore, Karan says that it will do 3,600 watts into 4 ohms and 6,000 watts into 2 ohms. This noteworthy output comes by way of twin 2.7 KVA toroidal power transformers and a custom capacitor bank totalling 210,000 micro-farads. The substantial transformers undoubtedly go some way to making up the MONO's 105kg per block (the POWERa stereo's single chassis also weighs 105kg). Furthermore, the POWERa MONO features dual on/off switches, one for each transformer, as well as a third switch for the in-built DC blocking circuit.

Meanwhile, the POWERa  Dual-Mono fully-balanced stereo power amplifier is rated at 650 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 1100 watts into 4 ohms and 1800 watts into 2 ohms. Additionally, you also get the twin toroidal transformer treatment here, this time rated at 2.1 KVA each with the power supply custom capacitor bank is maintained at an equal 210,000 micro-farads total. Naturally, both amplifiers feature high-quality components, including Audyn-CAP Intertechnik and Reference capacitors. Connectivity-wise, the amplifiers offer both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA options.

Both amplifiers are quoted as having a frequency response measuring from DC to 300 kHz at -3dB spanning 20 Hz-20 kHz +/-0dB. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is quoted as 0.03% for both models. The Inter-Modulation Distortion (IMD) is stated as being 0.03%.

Both POWERa MONO and Stereo amplifiers sport a 19.8x11.5x23.7-inch (WxHxD) precision-machined aluminium chassis supported by CMS (Critical Mass Systems) CS2 vibration control footers.

The LINEa preamplifier (USD $41,000 | CAD $52,500) and POWERa monoblock amplifiers (USD $106,000 | CAD $136,000 pair) are available now, with the remainder of the line due to arrive in 2022. The POWERa Stereo will sell for (USD $53,000 | CAD $68,000).

The LINEb costs (USD $29,000 | CAD $37,100), with the POWERb MONO priced at (USD $85,000 | CAD $109,000 pair) and the stereo version (USD $43,000 | CAD $55,000). Finally, PHONOa and b sport price tags of (USD $27,000 | CAD $34,600) and (USD $38,000 | CAD $48,600), respectively.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
