Goldmund Mimesis Signature Pre-Amplifier Now Available
Goldmund's new Mimesis Signature pre-amp boasts a reference ESS Sabre32 DAC, Swiss watchmaker quality and is touted as “a testament to our relentless pursuit of sonic perfection”.
The Mimesis Signature from Goldmund features the ESS9028Q2M SABRE32 Reference DAC, a 32-bit stereo digital-to-analogue converter that seamlessly handles PCM audio data up to 384kHz at 32-bit and DSD data up to DSD-22.6MHz format (DSD512).
Furthermore, we are told that this DAC has a dynamic range (DNR) of 129dB and remarkably low THD+N of -120dB while promising to capture every nuance with precision. Feeding this are two S/PDIFs, a Toslink optical and a USB Audio port.
Analogue components are also catered for thanks to three RCA pairs and balanced XLR inputs. Output connections are a pair each of RCA and XLR.
The screwless design of the top panel and upgraded, thicker panel structure (a 12mm profile up from a 6-8mm one) also help curb noise to ensure the utmost accuracy in sound reproduction. Output noise measures an astonishingly low 18µV, promising in unparalleled audio purity. Furthermore, the power supply achieves an impressive power supply rejection of 80dB, further fortifying against any potential noise intrusion.
Goldmund adds that by distinctly separating the analogue and digital power supplies, the audio signal and its components are shielded from any potential noise interference.
Typically Goldmund, there are some exquisite touches, such as the Goldmund moniker adorning the front of the amp, which comes from a supplier whose only other customers are Patek Philippe and Rolex.
The Mimesis Signature pre-amplifier is available from Goldmund for 20,000 Swiss Francs, around $28,000 USD.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
