Audio-Technica Releases New Powered Bookshelf Speakers
While they might be late to the party, Audio-Technica's new powered bookshelf speakers, the AT-SP3X, are certainly fashionable and sharply dressed priced.
Designed to be a perfect match with their turntables, you can also pair them with your favourite devices via wired or Bluetooth connection. According to the Japanese audio specialists, these compact speakers are specially tuned to deliver impressive, full-range, high-fidelity audio.
The AT-SP3X Powered Bookshelf Speakers feature 3-inch woofers and 1.1-inch tweeters specifically tuned by a built-in DSP to produce powerful, well-balanced sound for music, movies, and more. To build upon the sleek design, a power button with LED indicator and volume control keeps operation simple. The speakers include an AC adapter with three international plug adapters and a 2m speaker cable.
The AT-SP3X offers a turnkey solution when paired with turntables featuring a built-in preamp, meaning no external amplifier is required. The speakers are easy to set up and use in any space. The multipoint pairing function lets you stay connected to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously.
We're keen to get ears on, given the growing demand in the small powered speakers category that not only appeals to music lovers, but also great for desktops and content creators. Stay tuned!
The AT-SP3X are available now for $399 RRP in Australia. We are awaiting confirmation of release in North Ameria, along with local pricing.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
