Audio-technica AT-LP70xBT Turntable Targets New Vinylistas

Audio-technica's latest affordable turntable offers various upgrades to its entry-level vinyl player.

Sitting just above the AT-LP60xBT in Audio-technica's range of easy-to-use record players, the AT-LP70xBT is a fully automatic wireless belt-drive turntable, promising a user-friendly experience with every spin.

The AT-LP70xBT plays 33 1/3 and 45rpm records at the touch of a button and has a switchable phono preamp. This means it can connect directly to powered speakers, such as the company's AT-SP3X, for instance, or an amplifier without a phono stage.

Furthermore, you can stream your LPs and singles directly to wireless speakers via the LP70xBT's Bluetooth transmitter, which supports Qualcomm's aptX Adaptive codec for better quality wire-free playback.

At the end of the integrated J-shaped tonearm is the brand's AT-VM95C moving magnet cartridge. It features a 0.6mm conical stylus that promises to deliver excellent channel separation and low distortion, resulting in “outstanding tonal quality,” according to the manufacturer.

If and when you feel ready to upgrade, you can add an external phono preamp and even easily upgrade to another stylus from the popular VM95 range, which offers elliptical, micro linear, or Shibata profiles. You should read our VM95E review for more insight into what the elliptical stylus offers.

Finally, the LP70xBT boasts a stylish three-piece anti-resonance chassis that provides a solid foundation to dampen unwanted noise. It also features an anti-resonance, die-cast aluminium platter with a felt mat.

The AT-LP70xBT is available soon for $249 USD in three striking finishes—Black Silver, White Silver, and Black Bronze—and features a removable dustcover.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
