QuoteWe attended a rooftop party in Hollywood where JBL unveiled 13 new products, including five AV receivers and eight loudspeakers. Our initial impressions were positive. However, we were disappointed by JBL's tasteless ads targeting Gen Z women and portraying them as being idiots. Consulting @emikomusic @t.h.e.shownow for her perspective, we found the ad missed the mark, talking down to women and reinforcing harmful stereotypes. It's shocking JBL approved such a tone-deaf campaign, undermining efforts to empower women in audio. This video generalized stereotypes and made the audience seem clueless, wasting an opportunity to engage young people in HiFi. We feel JBL's approach was misguided and ineffective.
Marketing fail, or genius? I really don't know what to think.
