Ubiq Model One loudspeakers from Slovenia. I'd like to compare my impressions with the descriptions that I've read, which sound pretty damned compelling as far as my sonic priorities go.

I'd be happy to see real media being played in all the rooms whether it be cd or vinyl. I just can't get into music coming out of a laptop, phone or thumb drive.

I would like Melbourne to be cold and sunny and dry.

I would like my sense of direction to be better and when I walk off to Flinders Street station I don't find myself at Spencer Street 45 minutes later.

I would like the Nyala Ethiopian restaurant still to be where it should be up on Brunswick Street.

I'm not a fussy man  :)

Throw in tram conductors and it sounds like a great day out.

Well I'm hoping to walk everywhere as usual which is why I hope my sense of direction is better than normal. Mind you, this will be my first interstate visit with a smartphone so that should no doubt help.

I believe to use the trams you have to do the same as the buses now in Sydney and pre buy a bloody card and swipe it. I'd rather use Shank's Pony. Albert Park isn't that far from the city centre is it?

What I want is less about what I want to see than to hear, I'd really really like a show where the emphasis is on the music rather than the gear itself. I think that if the music just engages with people in a way they haven't experienced then that's the best advertisement for the gear and makes the most compelling case for high fidelity. Now of course the definition of 'what is good music' differs from person to person but boy am I sick of all that 'hi-fi show music' that normally gets played. How about a Classic Album Sundays type room where you can come and hear a complete album played right through side to side with a DJ introducing and talking about the record? Get Brian Nankervis to do it, get a bunch of well know musos to turn up with their favourite recording and talk about it.

Absolutely bang on the money. At least in theory. Given the demographic attracted to audio shows (white male, 40+) and having attended *many* these past few years, I've seen even the most determined efforts to do it different with music choices stymied by attendees fresh to the room request that Keith not leave just yet or "Any chance we could hear some classical music?". Like many things in life, it's a case of majority rule, much to the chagrin of those who know that the industry needs to move with the times to survive. And the times tell us that not every audiophile likes Krall or Jones, not every audiophile is into jazz and not every audiophile listens to classical.

no, not confusing the two, distinct types.

roped-off electronics displays, further differentiates.

LOL   :emot-bang:

are those ARC distributors still doing that?   great was to attract new potential buyers and make current owners feel great   .....................    not

The Melb system is easier than the Sydney system. Myki card works fine for me when I'm down there and the usual friendly and talkative SNA taxis aren't available...

I top mine up when I get into Melb and it's good for three years.

Shanks pony in a Melb winter from Albert Park to the CBD should keep you nice and warm at any rate, hang on to that umbrella.

Just remember that the City Circle trams are free - they may be handy -

Sounds like you want something similar to the ïnfamous"  NFS (not for sale) room that was always at T.H.E SHOW at CES time in Vegas.  3 hifi loving dudes who hired out a room, set it up with their stereo, filled the bathtub with good wine and spirits and just played music for the show period.

It was very popular with the punters and a lot of the manufacturers and media would turn up to listen to music, have a few drinks under the no hassle pressure.    Great room and great place to be after CES/show finished for the day.

Not sure what I want to see, but damn sure know what I don't want to hear. Diana "friggin" Krall.

Please put a ban on her insipid noise for the three days.

Good venue, a mate of mine has an apartment virtually next door.

All trams are now free in the cbd

Really?  I had no idea, but then again I haven't travelled into the CBD in many, many years.

That's good to know.

Hopefully Audio Notes will be back. First time I saw them with the 845 amp and thier speakers. Excellent.

Last time was with the 300B amp. Not as good.

Or even better still, the B&W Nautilus/Devialet system they had setup in Munich.

No that was a 2A3 amplifier running 3.5 watts into $6k speakers. The first system was a 211 power amp into $40k speakers. This year we are bringing a 300b amp running 6.5 watts so almost twice the power into $12k speakers but we will be using an insignificant barrow load of bananas to hook it up and all silver resistor electronics so should be interesting. Ok the memory fades. The 211 was my pick. The 2A3 didn't have the depth of tone I felt with the 211. A little disappointing.
