Guys, I have hidden a series of posts concerning a comment made in another forum by a character who, from memory, was banned from here some time ago.

It has no relevance to this thread.

Ah, some context. Explains everything.

Cheers.

That's been discussed elsewhere here @@unclemack.

We certainly don't have any rooms to "give away" - and I don't know of any punters who would volunteer to lug all their gear, set-up, incur associated expenses, man the room all weekend, all for very little in return.

It's a great idea, but I don't ever see it getting off the ground realistically.

...certainly not without a sponsor.. ;) Entry to The Vintage Room will cost punters a $[enter your amount] donation to SNA. I'd be up for organizing such a room --- if the show was in Sydney.

I think The Vintage Room could very well steal a hifi show.. :)

I'd like to see that.

A Vintage room would be great. Cant see it happening though, theres not much economic benefit.

Knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing is the way of the world these days. The cost of having sexy girls in bikinis standing around seems to be taken by all to add value (they dont stand there for free, well not the sexy ones anyway)

But whats a vintage room going to add?

It could be a "loss leader" for ticket sales...

But like Marc said, whos going to man it, supply the gear, etc. I've got half the gear in @@The Fez pic above and although its show presentation quality, theres some bugs. And do I want all those fingers touching it?

@@Sime If you wanna see some Pioneer vintage stuff, give me a yell when your next in Vic.

Theres two rooms left. If by chance they dont sell im still open to doing this. Though the question remains who would put the room together etc.

Wow there's a lot of reasons there why you think it can't be done.. Now let's come up with some great innovative ideas to make it happen - perhaps too late to get The Vintage Room happening this time. The very first step is to gauge interest and enthusiasm for an idea..I'm sure it can be done. You want something to happen, you make it happen with drive, energy, persuasion, negotiation and a relentless passion to see it come together! And Marc is already open to the idea -- well there you go, already possibly the biggest challenge met, with this in principle support...

@@The Fez Just being real, not trying to come across as negative.

I would imagine that anyone thats able to or wants to get involved in a vintage room would also want to see what else is there at the show, I know I would. Maybe a "tag team" of room participants could be set up?

As a "toss it out there" idea, how about some monster receivers from the 70's? Might be a bit easier than component systems

I have an SX-1980....

Solution: Call it DJB's room, fill it North Fitzroy style and of course @@djb will be in attendance and fill the room with his clutter and that'll probably take care of both remaining rooms and run a book or invite Bet365 to offer odds on whether djb can occupy the sweet spot for three full days with occasional breaks  for a nip of mandarin brandy.

Most popular and visited room guaranteed.

What happens if the sound quality in the room of retro gazumps that of all the fancy-shiny-new-stuff rooms where distributors are paying good coin to showcase their wares ?

For one of the remaining Rooms --what happened to the idea mooted a while back of having a NFS room?

The NFS room was very popular at THE SHOW in Las Vegas

Basically a room  with subdued lighting --couches /chairs /side Tables--not explicitly a Sound Room per se but put together by couple of Audiophile Dudes who successfully wangled  an upmarket

Sound system --Lps in this case as they were Vinyl fans--the two Years I visited the Room--they had DeVore Speakers second time Mini Apogees.

It is room to just chill and sample the large selection of Wines they had on show --have a glass and listen to some good sounds and relax away from the Show hustle

They had the wines supplied free to the room--as was glass or two for the attendees

Oh yes NFS--Not For Sale

Could work for the local Show--no?

Just a thought--

I dont think that would happen, but it would be kind of cool if it did.

One thing a room of sorts like this would be good for is a place the forum members could hang out in instead of holding up the distributors rooms.

Having done 4 shows and always had a bowl of lollies out for passer throughs, I've lost count of the number of individuals who think nothing of taking a big handful and filling their pockets and then walking out without a second thought so providing free wine would be something to see. Do they do 20 litre chateau chunder?

Posted

I like the idea of a vintage room. If someone wants to chill, go outside. If someone wants wine or lollies, byo. Where do you stop once you loose focus...free 3 course meals?

Keep it clean and simple and its got a chance of working. No 1970's section, no black or silver section, just keep it vintage, aka, 25 years or older. Otherwise its not a vintage room and it would become a competition. Not a good thing really. I like my gear, if I liked something better, I'd collect that but I sure can appreciate other vintage gear.

Personally, I reckon a big receiver shootout type thing would get some attention. At least as a starting point. The "legendary" Sansui, Technics, Pioneer, Rotel, etc...

I'd be happy to trust someone else to look after mine that owns a similar one while I went for a pee.

I dont know how big the rooms are and if there would be space for some of the valve guys to bring something along.

I guess its really Marc's call. If he sells the rooms the point is mute. But if he was to allow a room for this it would be his call on how to structure it.

As I said, I support the concept. I mean we could call it the "StereoNET Room" ...

However I certainly don't have the resources or the ability to man it, or organise it. So I throw it over to you guys.
I'll provide the room, if you provide something we can do with it and make it happen :)

If you can get Chord there with Rob watts present, I'd be there screaming like a girl at a One direction concert.

I know it's sad.

Oh and BTW - John Franks is coming and will personally be presenting some MOJO's to some lucky show attendees throughout the course of the weekend. :)
