I heard it whilst record browsing in Manchester, and just knew that I'd have to buy it. I'd never heard of Nine Below Zero before; I'm not sure why; they're an English, more bluesy version of the Teskey Brothers. This is a 'greatest hits' compilation from a great blues band that's been around since the 1980s. As featured in an episode of THE YOUNG ONES , irrc. Billy 3

Steff Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Some discogs purchases that needed some cleaning up with methylated alc & soft cloth 2
David A Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Discogs is a great resource, and is helping keep cd's alive. Enjoy your new music! 3
Flash Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Not strictly music, and also not a purchase, but an early birthday gift. 2 1
stevoz Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 A couple of CD's: Powderfinger "Parables For Wooden Ears"....after deciding the new vinyl reissue was just a bit much....and with the new disc player making CD's sound SO good. A 'guilty pleasure' from when my daughters were still at home and I was a 'try hard' Dad attempting to keep up with then current music trends. Mis-Teeq "Scandalous" Maxi CD, with the single and 4 versions/remixes of that same song.
stevoz Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Just now via ebay, "Keith Emerson Band Featuring Marc Bonilla" CD....after seeing @emesbee playing it then checking it out....as an ELP fan. It's pretty good! If it really grows on me, I might fork out for the LP. 1

Flash Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 This just arrived. I’m not sure if I can bring myself to open it…. Careful reinforcement of the shrink wrap near the spine will be in order I think. 4 1
Steff Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Recent discogs bargains (the small OZ sellers often stay in the $5 region for popular genre) 2
Steff Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 These arrived today, lots of Savall and Mahler No 5 Pentatone 1
Steff Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) Well for us medieval times nerds, this was a welcome ebay bargain. The Albigensian Crusade put to music by Jordi Savall et al. Questions about the Cathar faith notwithstanding, the state's/church's actions were consistent with their habitual landgrab-murder campaign characteristic of the larger era of the crusades. Under cover of a campaign of religious principle was also played out a conflict between northern (royal) France and southern (Cathar) independence, between northern culture and southern (Languedoc) culture. If you've never heard of the Albigensians, this owes as much to the successful colonial elimination of the group as to its temporal distance of 1,000+ years. The title in English: The forgotten kingdom. https://www.discogs.com/release/7365033-La-Capella-Reial-De-Catalunya-Hespèrion-XXI-Jordi-Savall-Montserrat-Figueras-Pascal-Bertin-Lluís-V 3 SACDs and a very handsome and hefty book Edited December 2, 2024 by Steff 2

Thanks, happy to do so. I only became aware of this album when I checked Julie Fowlis' website back in late November so I placed my order straight away. I have been away at my sister's place in Queensland over the Christmas / New Year break, returned home on Tuesday 7th and the CD arrived yesterday (after my mail Hold had expired). After listening to the album last night and thoroughly enjoying it I just had to post an update on the World Music thread as I knew there would be at least one person who would be interested. Hope you had a good Christmas and all the best for 2025. I forgot to mention that mine was a pre-order, as the official release date was 6th December 2024. Edited January 9 by emesbee 1
