almikel Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Hi guys, since upgrading my speakers and adding a sub I've become addicted to punchy mid bass. I've found myself searching my collection for any music with a real snap in the mid bass, typically the drums or bass guitar. Good examples include: most Fleetwood Mac but especially, The Chain, Sara, Gypsy, Tusk lots of Pink Floyd but The Wall album is a standout Tracy Chapman tracks like SubCity, Baby I can't Hold You, Material World Angus and Julia Stone Yellow Brick Road and others of theirs I'm not too interested in low muddy bass - its the crisp attack of mid bass I've become addicted to. Please suggest others. cheers Mike 1
almikel Posted July 3, 2015 Author Posted July 3, 2015 cheers Luc, wow - amazing bass guitar sounds great even on Youtube - I'll seek it out Mike
kelossus Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 (edited) Rodrigo Y Gabriela - Hanuman, actually you are better off grabbing a few of there albums especially 11:11. Fantastic engineering. Bela Fleck - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo and Sunset Road are great tracks. The hippo one is just nuts though and might be a bit muddy for your liking but it does have big mid-bass kicks. Man I keep editing these posts as I am leaving too much out. Sinister Minister by bela fleck has some nice punch to it. Edited July 3, 2015 by kelossus 1

almikel Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 Also if you want something a bit heavier Danzig - She Rides Also Queen - Another One Bites The Dust I am sucker for mid-bass also What speakers/sub combo do you have? Hi Kelossus, I run a pair of Acoustic Elegance TD18s from 300Hz down sitting underneath PSE144s. My sub is a T20 tapped horn - dual 12" Rythmik running up to 60Hz I run some EQ via my DEQX on the TD18s and no high pass filter, and room correction across sub and TD18s - the "in room" response is quite flat 20Hz - 200Hz (excluding a room curve). I have a bunch of treatment also. The mid bass was amazing with just the TD18s, now with the T20 sub, the bass is gob smacking and effortless. cheers Mike 1
emesbee Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Some good links there, joz, a few names that are new to me. I might have to check out Dean Peer and Marcus Miller. 1
emesbee Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Anthony Jackson. (Looks like somebody recorded this on a smartphone.) Playing his 6 string 'contrabass' here. This is from the Lee Ritenour Overtime DVD. I have a copy of this, and the bass sounds stronger on the DVD than this youtube clip.
almikel Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 awesome links and tips guys - even you tube sounds great that massive octo bass thing is amazing in that reverberant room cheers Mike

Freedom Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Also if you want something a bit heavier Danzig - She Rides +1 for Danzig. Also well produced considering it's era and how heavy Danzig's music is. Sounds very fresh and crisp along with the tight 'bass'! 1
metal beat Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Any of the Nine Inch Nail albums from the Downward Spiral onwards has huge mid bass. 1

mpearce38 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 (edited) +1 Bella Fleck Craig David - Rewind awesome low bass in the chorus, Dire Straits - caling elvis, very heavy fuel The Presets - Talk like that Michael Franti - We don't mind Maxwell - Embrya (one of my all time faves) Some of my favourites I should add that Maxwell was personally responsible for blowing two sets of MB Quarts car speakers in my younger days. His urban hang suite album was also the go to cd to play in the car on date nights ;-) Edited August 22, 2015 by mpearce38
