catman Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) G'day all, yes it is! Over the last few days I've had two separate Shure M97xE phono cartridges lose a channel through open circuit coils inexplicably! They were both working fine then suddenly failed. That is such a drag when that happens. Although they were both phono cartridges in this case, I've had similar unexpected failures to electronics as well....working one day, then dead the next! I guess that this is one reason why I favour DIY, because if you built it, you 'should' be able to repair it when it fails, (and I have). I really have to ask though, why do things occasionally fail and/or stop working suddenly for no apparent reason?! Regards, Felix. Edited June 30, 2015 by catman
blybo Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I've also had my Grace cart drop a channel after magic eraser cleaning of the stylus, only to have it correct itself the next day. Loose connection somewhere which must of been disturbed by cleaning as I checked all leads/wires so that wasn't the cause.
