catman Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) G'day all, I have SAS styli installed on two Shure cartridges, well sort of, one for my main system M97xE and another on an M91ED. The one on the M91ED inexplicably failed with poor tracking shortly after being installed (a few years ago), and the one on my M97xE was fine and working well but this afternoon one channel (the left one), mysteriously failed. It sounds more like a cartridge fault (open circuit coil perhaps), but it is weird that it was also fitted with an SAS stylus. An SAS stylus curse, or just bad luck? Mmmmm. Regards. Felix. Guest Muon Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 The poor tracking one might be due to a fault, and in that case should be sent back. The left channel drop you should be able to work out what is wrong there, with the knowledge you have. Swap the headshell leads on the cart ans see if the fault follow ect'.
catman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 G'day mate, when the M91ED SAS stylus failed I was strongly considering sending it back but for a couple of reasons I decided not to and just accepted the financial loss, and with this latest failure this might hasten my search for a new cartridge. In all honesty, I am tiring of the M97xE. Regards, Felix.

waricle Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 You're going to have to change your name to Lucky, mate!!! Carts are fickle, do you use alcohol to clean your tips?
catman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 G'day mate, no. Regards, Felix. I think that the only 'luck' I have is bad luck!

If it makes you feel better, It's probably no worse than many of us. I went through three Behringer SCR2496 units attempting to mod for transformer output, damn touchy little surface mount AKM chips  There are many stories in this big city, this has just been one of them
catman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 G'day mate, I could be here telling stories forever! My bad luck started on the 14th of December 1962! Regards, Felix.
