Hi guys I'm looking into purchasing a high end CD player

to accompany my Electrocompaniet EC5 mk II?

Any input is appreciated and reasons for choosing player

too if possible? Feel free to ask me any more info u may

need to help answer me more accurately.

Cheers

Every different brand of cd player has it's own "tone/house" sound. What is your preference?

Troy, what sort of price range are you looking at, and are you also considering second hand?

What speakers do you have?

bzr 's point is a good one: some players have a warm rich sound; others can be very clinical and almost excessively detailed. Getting that balance can be very subjective and knowing your preferences and ancillary gear is important.

Great question, well I listen to a lot of heavy metal to be totally honest and my

partner she listens to more instrumental to folk. But most music is played by me .

I'm looking for something that brings alive my music and has a good emphasis on the bottom

end sound in the music without losing the detail. Plus not skipping on dynamics and of coarse

attack. Warmth is definitely a bonus. ( Hope I'm not being to picky ).

A lot of my huge cd collection is of the 90's and to be honest some of it struggles with good productions.

That aside Im sure the right player will bring out the best in their productions and offer me the details I'm looking

for to a decent degree.

I've been recommended the Electrocompaniet ECM 1 up mklll and from my research sounds like

an extraordinary piece of engineering but seems to be out of my price range retailing for $7500.

Surely there are other high end CD players out there that will gel nicely with my Electrocomaniet intergrated

and 803 Diamonds.

I appreciate your time and knowledge.

Luxman D-06 is simply superb. Digital inputs allows flexibility RRP is around $7200 but can be bought for less and is a lifetime purchase

Rega Saturn -R for half that money is a high-end-on-a-budget machine and also sounds amazing. It is also described as a DAC/transport. Not as well constructed as the Luxman but still good and also a keeper

Gemini07 I'm thinking I'd lean towards warmth over detail.

Also I'm running a pair of B&W 803 Diamonds.

Rantan that's a great start for me to look into.

I appreciate the share of knowledge. And the quick response

tells me u know your gear

Oh and I was asked price range and if I'd buy second hand.

Price I was looking at was around $3-4000.

And second hand is fine but me if I buy it with protection or warranty.

Thanks

Wow Hensa u have put me onto some really nice gear here.

Been doing my research and taking into consideration my music taste

I'm thinking the Plinius may be more of what I'm looking for in a CD player.

I'm not looking for a heap of buttons and gizmos, I want the tech put into the

soul performance of the player. Both machines seem to fit this category

and reading reviews on both is making my decision of further enquiry a bit

difficult. I'll keep delving and also see if there's any other suggestions in the

meen time. I'm liking the sound of second hand as I'm saving good coin.

Thanks soooo much for the heads up too. Legend.

Maybe another option for you here mate  http://www.customanalogue.com/jlti_multiplayer.htm

I was on a bit of a merry-go-round for a while in trying to get a player suited to the wide & varied styles of music I like , I went from a Rega Saturn - Yamaha CDS2000 - Consonance Droplet , then settled on a Oppo 105 level 3.

Joe is a good bloke to deal with and a straight shooter too.

I run a luxman D-06 myself, however with your amp....

while a touch out of budget, I would look at a Electrocompaniet ECC1

just try haggle on price ...now is the time of the year and a little arm twisting might get you there.

while second hand is always an option ...you could wait for years till something like this came up...instead grab something lovely like this now and enjoy now and for years to come...rather than waiting....

Whilst I haven't heard the Electrocompaniet gear, I feel you're always on good ground going with the same brand, if you like their style. So if you enjoy the Electro amp, it would make sense to enquire about their CDP and get an initial feel for its characteristics. Then of course have a listen, preferably with your own gear etc. You can always justify paying a bit more if you really enjoy it and it's likely to be a keeper.

Plus I think the two would look stunning together.

To throw a possible spanner in the works, do you want it to double as a DAC with dedicated digital inputs?

Something to consider as an all in one solution for future proofing.

Don't overlook what is right in front of you. Marantz make some great players. A touch on the warm side, good at fleshing the bass out & brings the detail to the fore as well.

I have a Densen B-420XS which ticks all your boxes. Any Densen CD player would...They are around second-hand.

Agree with those suggestions,

I'm not sure if there is a AMR cd-77 around second hand but that would be my dream player.   I haven't heard an ECC1 to comment.

I am yet to hear an Accuphase CD player that did not sound superb.

I believe they have really nailed the art of making digital sound human.

I have a Electrocompaniet ECI3 , using a Marantz SA11s1 with success or if looking for something a little cheaper a Marantz SA8003/8004 works very well too .
