I'd like to have some photobooks made up of our recent travels in the caravan, especially our most recent trip to the outback and the red centre.  I've been doing some research and there are a LOT of websites out there both in Australia and overseas who do these books.  Here's a list of the photobook sites I've had a look at so far:

US SITES:

Shutterfly

Mixbook

Snapfish

Artifact Uprising

AUSSIE SITES:

Momento

Albumworks

Photo Books

Of the US sites, Mixbook looks pretty good and got a recent (Feb. 2015) #1 rating in Tom's Hardware.  Of the Aussie sites, both Momento and Albumworks look good.  The Aussie sites are nominally more expensive, but once you factor in exchange rates and delivery charges, they are competitive.  Has anyone had any experience with any of these listed sites?  How did you find them for quality, service and price?  And if you've used a different site, please include that in the discussion.

I've used Albumworks four times, being their biggest books with maximum pages each time.  The finish is superb, really impressive vibrant colours, pages that are beautiful to touch, hard back covers with nice engraving and well bound.  The oldest books are 5 years old and don't show any signs of age whatsoever.

Haven't used anyone else, but would certainly recommend Albumworks.  I also really enjoyed designing all the pages myself...

Thank you for that.  I am leaning towards Albumworks although Momento also looks good.  An advantage is that both are Aussie sites.  I was going to say that Momento was more expensive, but that's not necessarily the case.  Albumworks offers two levels, SD (Standard Definition) and HD (High Definition).  Have you tried both?  If you have, do you think that the HD photo reproduction is worth the extra it costs?

Yeah I had 2 books done SD and 2 books done HD.  Go the HD if you can, the difference is markedly better and, considering you're preserving precious memories, is well worth it.  The improvement is noticeable in colours, detail/definition, and the feel of the paper.  When you hold a SD book in one hand, and a HD book in the other, there's about a 50% weight difference and also the depth is 50% more in the HD because the paper is much thicker.

Thanks Kaynin, exactly the type of feedback I was looking for.  I'll take your advice on that.  Anybody else want to chime in?

I used VistaPrint, I think they are based in India.

The finished product was superb - hardcover, with cover art, 24 pages of high grade photo paper.

Took about a month from order to doorstep arrival.

If there is a good local alternative, I'd be interested.

We have to be careful - sometimes even an aussie website is still a business based overseas!
