Raffinator Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 All, I'm amazed at the ability of people selling their gear to still produce the original packaging. I'm exceedingly curious as to where people stash it all. I'm currently using spare space at my parents house to keep the boxes of most of my current gear, but if they downsize soon I'm screwed. Love to hear your thoughts.
Flynnyfalcon Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Yep parents is always a good one. I have the boxes for my Harbeth's blatantly laying in my office, the rest is sitting in my garage attic space.
Newman Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I used to keep them in the roof space of my house, when there were only a dozen or so. But now there are too many so I moved them into a toolshed. 1
emesbee Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I have a spare bedroom full of cardboard boxes. Some have been filled with books.
Volunteer Kazz Posted June 22, 2015 Volunteer Posted June 22, 2015 I keep mine in the roof space of my house.
Raffinator Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 Based on responses I need to get one of those ladders to the ceiling space and make a little attic... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
blybo Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I'm lucky, I have a work warehouse that holds all my boxes, christmas decorations, and the family camper van.

Guest myrantz Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 The trick is only keep the boxes of items you think you're gonna sell (in the short term), or in the long term (have a higher value than what you paid for).... Any boxes that don't fit either of the above, recycle 'em.
Stump Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/84450-cardboard-boxes-do-you-keep-them-or-turf-them/
Super Mustud Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Just build another garage. The Mustuds now have three double garages and three sheds at home. I am actually allowed to use one third of the space...
NQB Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I used to keep all of them when I moved around a lot, but lately I've realised there's not a lot of retail value vs realestate value. Maybe if I had anything in the thousands of dollar range, I'd pack them down and keep them. My main thought is after a few years, the depreciation on electronics doesn't make much difference whether it has an original box or not. Keeping boxes and giant stacks of styrofoam just gets to be a pain.
b.d Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Parents in-laws attic. Though often I'm so convinced (or trying to encourage myself) that I'll never sell the item that I chuck the box. 6 months later I always regret it.
ThirdDrawerDown Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 About to install a loft ladder as the mezzanine in the garage is over-full.
Hergest Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 In the roof space. If I sell any gear years down the track i have to spend a couple of days cleaning the mice and cockroach crap off the boxes though.
Andrew S. Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Storage Unit - essential when live in an apartment.
A J Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Yes but offset the storage against depreciation differentials - and voila
Cafad Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I have a spare bedroom that is no longer a 'spare' (and in fact, does not contain a bed as that would take up valuable box space). I used to have a massive shed, but not any more.
MultiplexMan Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I have lined a section of my roof space and have it set aside as a dedicated box/packing material storage area. I keep all boxes sealed in plastic bags with naphthalene cubes to keep the silverfish out. Attic ladder makes access a breeze. 1
Raffinator Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 I wonder if boxes provide roof insulation... Both sound in and heat out [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
