Wondering if anyone has some suggestions for some in-ear headphones for a runner? The wife regularly runs half marathons (she's lazy lol and wont do the full ones :) ) and has trouble with them falling out of her ears. I've had a Google for some but the either don't have really good reviews or are crazy expensive.

Any runners have an opinion please....

As a jogger/walker who is edging up to my half marathon distances I'd say...why?

But I'm in the country and I'd never ever ever have ear buds in coz it's just too interesting(wildlife, sights, smells) and also just too damn dangerous with cars sneaking up on you down back lanes ect, ect.

I'm guessing it's probably a bit different in the cities(if that's where you are that is) but the next dumb arse runner/jogger/walker I meet in my truck as I head towards my early morning job who just blithely walks out in front of me to cross the road and then looks...wont be the first one that's for sure.

I've taken to honking the horn whenever I approach these odd types(mainly women I must admit at the early hours I'm talking) with what appears to be  a death wish(at times), for why else would you block one of your main senses that warn you of danger?

My opinion.

She runs along cycle tracks at the beach etc so traffic isn't a bother for her.

Shes eyeing off Yurbuds but the reviews are sorta of meh.

Ah, I see. Still not a fan of blocking yourself off to the outside world and what it can present, but each to their own eh. Good luck in your search.

*I've done the beachside run along Glenelg beach heading east(from where the tram ends) a few times and you have to dodge the bastar*ds on bikes all the time. Lovely run apart from that.

Bah& humbug!

You effete WA types are no different from  the rest of OZ's urban runner/joggers/walkers.

I nearly stepped on a huge blue tongue partially buried in the leaf litter on the side of a lane here and if I'd had my bluetooth plugged in at a volume that let me hear cars&trucks approaching..well all 100kgs of me would of squashed the poor fellow. They hiss if you get to close up and they've been warmed up by the sun. An approaching swarm of bees moving home was another thing heard on a jog, just above eye level but clearly agitated and clearly not overly happy about me wandering into their movement of their Queens.

Pfft to your music/radio/lectures/meeting minutes while you walk/run and engage in public with your immediate surroundings. Ditch the ear candy and deal with the world as it presents itself to you.

Cheers for the ideas. Taking her to look at a couple tomorrow. Some of those Aurisonics jobbies are mad spendy.

Bought myself a pair of these polks.post-113906-0-60227200-1434896819_thumb.

They sound great, a lot better than the in ear sports headphones I tried. Super comfy, they were also quite cheap. Worth a look and a listen I think.

I'm working my way up to a full marathon. Will get there soon.

Cheers Dave.

Denon made a set they called 'Exercise Freak'. In-ear, wrap around doodad to keep them in and bluetooth, so no wires. From memory they were around $150rrp.

Want cheaper? The Xiaomi Piston 2 are SUPERB at $35-40, runner or not. Buy from eBay.

I don't run with them, but they are the best 'bang for buck' IEMs out there.

Even my son bought a pair after hearing/trying mine for jogging/training.

Terrible answer I know, but I used custom-moulded musician monitors for all cardio training.

The downsides:

Cost, time it takes to get done, effort, possibly too much isolation.

The upside: I can run with these for hours, and never even really notice they are there.

Before that, I had great success with the Shure SE215, and the Westone ADV Alpha IEMs.

The Westone I especially liked, as it had a water-resistant/shock resistant body, and a very bassy signature. Both the Shure and Westones are single driver dynamics, and both have "memory wire" that wraps around the ear, to ensure they stay nice and snug.

What did you end up purchasing?

Fellow beach runner down but Semaphore way.

I have struggled to find ear buds that fit well and I find when running they fall out constantly.

Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on design like this?

The other issue with in-ear phones is that you hear all the "internal" noises while running - heartbeat, foot thumping etc. I find it really annoying.

Try the bone conducting phones (eg Aftershokz) They leave your ears completely free

She ended up with a pair of some random brand that she liked cos they fit. I got them from the running shop. But a lot of the time now she doesn't were them as shes running with friends and they talk.

How someone can run and talk at the same time is beyond my understanding. :)
