And so....

Greenfield became friendlier and were interested in the situation.

Inspection results indicated some metal on metal noise indicating that it may have a noisy 'clutch pack', apparently that is not worth pursuing until it really busts.

Still not 100% happy.  I don't expect it to be making any 'noises' at 33  hours use when it cost as much as my car.

I'll use it a bit when it comes back.  Proof will be in the use.

How has it gone over the last 12 months? I was surprised to read quite a number of Greenfield war stories when I updated our ride-on a few years ago.

LOL. We got a secondhand one with only 38 hours on it and 18 months warranty left......still darn expensive, but will hopefully be bomb proof. I'll report back in due course

It's gone from 33hrs to 49 hrs by the end of last summer.

I mow about 4 acres a few times a year so it's not like it's getting a thrashing.  Thus how pissed off I am when it busts.

That many extra hours is hardly anything.

Took it out for a first run of the season the other day and one of the factory fitted blades has snapped along the length and gone missing so I've got a chunk of shrapnel ready to kill someone in the grass now.

I understand blades are a consumable.  I have hit a couple of things when I've had it too low on rough ground, (I run it high the whole time now), so I expect to replace them.  To split Longitudinally indicates cheap brittle steel to me.  Also when I took the blades off only one had a washer under the nut.

While I'm bitching; one end of the tie rod steering has a hole that's half a mm too small to put the tie rod back through without wrecking the thread or having to drill it out.  Half a Mill !!  FFS.

Bought it because of local recommendation and tough reputation.

The best bit is the Motor which is a Briggs and Stratton import.  The Aussie designed bits are bullshit.  The front wheels stick out beyond the 'nudge bar' so whack stuff first and thus bugger the steering.

Who knows I may come to love it.  Get back to me in another 6 months when I've used it to knock down the fire risk and mowed the lawn a few times for another season.

@eman.....bugger.

Well I mowed about 2 acres of crap tonight with the Razorback. Works as advertised, I'm very pleased. Two things I dont like about it:

1. Oil is hard to get into it - without unbolting a guard which has 4 bolts

2. The battery is at the front near the head light and its got....rather had....a plastic guard on it. Guard fell off and I ran over it....cactus.

That aside, 600mm high bladey grass, minced. A couple of small trees circa 25mm, taken out

Quality of cut on grass/lawn is not "fine" but we dont need it for that

Well that sounds like we're about even.  Badly designed bits on the top of something that will smash whatever you drive it at.  Mine's dropped a small tree by 'accident'.

Did you see the big ones for golf courses have 'cruise' and drink holders ?

I'd like to "weld something up" on mine too but I've had to settle for reversing the original front bar and bolting stuff on to it.  Nowhere near as good as a fat chunk of steel welded on though.

I like to push stuff (fallen branches etc) around with mine and only recently found out there's a Dozer blade available for some Greenfields.  I shudder to think of the cost, it would make it harder to mow close to things .....but just the idea is appealing.

Update : 50 hrs. (That's about 10 hours use a year !!! )

Engine cover/bonnet elastic strap on one side busts and the other side won't be long.  Have to come up with my own solution with springs or straps otherwise the 'bonnet' 'pivot' will wear unusually I expect.

More importantly a larger bit busts off.  The 'rider' wheel toward the rear of the cutting deck busts off.  There's one on each side so I checked a nut on the other side - loose.  Captive bolt coming from underneath the cutting deck is welded on and now busted off so to get the remainder out I'd have to get underneath with a grinder !  I'm on Disability....

Might have found someone who can just weld them back on from the top.

Went to local Agricultural shop where I bought it new for thousands of dollars and looked at the current Greenfield model on display.  Easily seen problematic points have been improved.  Proving they were selling crap.   Shop's opinion is that I should maintain my machinery more closely.  They really don't give a sh!t. (My car cost the same and has 300,000km on it. ).  Shop now deals mostly in Husqvarna. A long line of Husqies with one Greenfield on display.  That might suggest something.

Update:  bits keep breaking and behind the breakage I find dodgy design and construction.

Quite frankly this cost me a lot of money and I'm VERY P!SSED OFF.

Now I don't care if it is Aussie made or if they have fixed the problems in subsequent models : "DON'T BUY ONE".

Pretty sure it would still mow down stuff like that but every 'peripheral' that gives up is a degradation in the unit as a whole.  The main motor and cutter (not made in AU !) are strong but I can hear that noisy 'clutchpack' again (cos I left it parked for a while !?).

While working on these side support wheels I've found the main deck is made of such soft alloy that they've had to put little 'helping straps' under the main deck to support the captive hex bolt head or it would shred the cutting deck when tightened !! That is CR @P ....and now the 'straps' are busted............:emot-bang:
