Viognier Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 May live in the (modern) classical thread but this certainly fits the Sunday night chilling with a single malt theme. Max Richter. Three Worlds: Music From Woolf Works. Richter's score to 3 ballets based around Virginia Woolf. 5
ThirdDrawerDown Posted June 4, 2017 Author Posted June 4, 2017 Autechre - Amber probably not ambient but the definitive guide to dance, trance, synthesiser and other musics that go 'blip' and 'doof' has not made it my way yet. It's complicated by (I'm pretty sure of this) the ambient label has changed since Eno did those albums in the '70's. "Ambient' might well apply to quite different music nowadays. Anyway, lots of blips, melody, atmospheres in this one, and a blessed absence of doof-doofs . 4
hired goon Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Cousin Silas & Øystein Jørgensen - Coefficient Of Variation -- 2 x 25+ min tracks of gentle pads, noodling electric guitar and beats. Reminds me of bit of Klaus Schulze + Manuel Gottsching collaborations. "Name Your Price" download from Bandcamp. --Geoff 3
Bell Ringer Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Finally found time to listen to Taylor Deupree's Somi. Perfect Sunday night ambient chill down. https://12kmusic.bandcamp.com/album/somi 2
LogicprObe Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Well.............I was playing Elton John's 'Funeral for a Friend'.........which is probably a bit more than ambient when it transitions into 'Love Lies Bleeding'. 1

And all for $1! Yep, all 119 albums for $1. You need to be in the mood for it - like any ambient music, but for $1 you can't go wrong. 2

hired goon Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Nightwind - The Sound Of Silence -- so the artist name sounds like a flatulent condition (which is probably why it got changed to NightSkies later) but this release is all processed guitar and sounds not unlike some Frippertronics. "Name Yer Price" download at Bandcamp. --Geoff 1
hired goon Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 (edited) Wings Of An Angel - I Am A Heaven And A Controversial Authority On One World (Euphoric Ambient Anthology) -- a recent anthology from the prolific artist Wings Of An Angel, this is a generous 21 track collection of "ethereal and euphoric ambient hits", ranging in style from processed piano to drone. Some lovely pieces on here. A "Name Your Price" download on Bandcamp. --Geoff Edited December 21, 2019 by hired goon 1
hired goon Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 So I am one night behind ... but it is ambient: Off Land - (Drone Variations) Volume 1 & (Drone Variations) Vol. 2 -- a new artist to me, worth checking out some more. These are reworkings of tracks from previous albums. "Name Yer Price" lossless downloads from Bandcamp. --Geoff 1
ThirdDrawerDown Posted July 31, 2017 Author Posted July 31, 2017 Geoff, Off Land gets bonus points for the band name alone. (I continue to follow your recommendations with interest.) 1

hired goon Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Jamie McMenamy - Lap Steel - Live 5.28.2017 -- spinning another album from this bloke, this time it's a live recording, essentially a drone with processed lap steel guitar over the top. Not the sparse sound that some may expect (like the Paris Texas soundtrack) but pretty good all the same. "Name Yer Price" lossless download at Bandcamp. --Geoff 1
