ThirdDrawerDown Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 A couple of decades back there was a crop of ambient remakes of Pink Floyd albums rumoured to be by the Future Sound of London. I think authorship was all just rumour. Most were not very good, in my opinion the ambient Wish You Were Here was the best of them, and DSOTM a complete disappointment. ********** Meantime I spend decades compiling an ambient music collection with an Enoeque flavour, and finally Eno last year himself releases some generative music apps which replace Koan, SSEYO, and Bloom with something easy to install. Yes I have followed them all. There's half-hour excerpts to listen to and more on the web site, as well as the apps to buy and download. Typically with Eno, Android is an afterthought and it's mostly for Apple. But anyone can play the ambient "quotes" from the generative apps. https://generativemusic.com/index.html Anyway, today I downloaded the Bloom: 10 app, plugged a RCA cable into the headphone socket of my phone, and now have generative Eno resonating through the house from the big stereo. Perhaps forever. Currently spinning: as Geoff says, noice! 1
hired goon Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Steve Roach - Return To The Dreamtime -- A 30th anniversary sequel of sorts to the seminal 1988 album, representing "expanded and evolved pieces from Dreamtime Return, created live". Been a while since I listened to the original recording, which I recall was proto tribal ambient journey of the Australian indigenous culture, so I can't recall which bits are "expanded" or "evolved". It does start with a 39 minute sequencer driven piece, which I assume is a bit of both. Noice. "Name Yer Price" lossless download from Bandcamp for a limited time. --Geoff 1
hired goon Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Henrik Meierkord - String Drone Adagios -- a collection of "long and textured piece(s) made only with cello, effects, and processing". Noice. "Name Yer Price" lossless download from Bandcamp. --Geoff 1
hired goon Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Dirk Serries - Treasure Of Stars -- Another in the series of processed guitar ambient drones from the artist formerly known as Vidna Obmana. Noice. "Name Yer Price" lossless download from Bandcamp. --Geoff 2
hired goon Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Assembly of honey - Night Drive -- latest release from Russian ambientonauts, basically live guitar noodling with FX, stands out from the crowd with its glistening and ethereal sound. Suitable backdrop for a rainy day, just like the cover art. "Name Yer Price" lossless download from Bandcamp. --Geoff
Ian McP Posted March 12 Posted March 12 new release from Oren Ambarchi Kind Regards: Oren Ambarchi and Eric Thielemans https://orenambarchi.bandcamp.com/album/kind-regards < Kind Regards is the second duo release from guitarist Oren Ambarchi and drummer Eric Thielemans, out via AD 93 on the 21st February 2025. The record captures an expansive performance in Poitiers, France in November 2023. First working together in an unpredictable trio with minimalist legend and eccentric extraordinaire Charlemagne Palestine, Ambarchi and Thielemans quickly established a remarkable musical chemistry that led to an ongoing series of duo concerts, including the performance documented on their LP Double Consciousness (Matière Mémorie, 2023). Kind Regards finds the duo refining their shared language while continuing to take risks, allowing the music’s gravitational pull to lead them from meditative calm to unexpectedly expressive passages of melodic invention and rhythmic drive. Recorded in sparkling fidelity and carefully mixed by Ambarchi’s longtime collaborator Joe Talia, the LP contains a single unbroken performance, stretching out for over 45 minutes. Guitar and drums weave together into a symbiotic whole that nevertheless affords us ample opportunity to marvel at the highly personal approaches these two musicians have developed to their chosen instruments through decades of diverse... more credits released February 21, 2025 Mixed and Mastered by Joe Talia > 1
