Dwizzle Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Hi, A mate found one of these in hard rubbish that looks to be in reasonable condition. The Elac speakers seem to be well regarded, are the TT's as respected? Does anyone know anything about this specific model? Thanks
Upfront Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Photos might help a few of the old fellas recognise it mate. Ive heard some good stuff about the tts but no direct experience.
Zaphod Beeblebrox Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Hi, A mate found one of these in hard rubbish that looks to be in reasonable condition. The Elac speakers seem to be well regarded, are the TT's as respected? Does anyone know anything about this specific model? Thanks Back in the 1970s, there was Elac and Dual. These were the heavy hitters in the auto turntables from Germany. I owned a Dual 1218 and a mate owned the Elac Miracord 660. We fitted them with the same cartridge (Shure M93ED). After careful alignment, we compared the two turntables using the Shure test record. Rumble and isolation was pretty much the same for both turntables (excellent). HOWEVER, the trackability of the Dual far exceeded the ability of the Elac. The tone arm on the Elac was far too heavy. That said, the Shure test record was a pretty tough test for any turntable and, for the price you paid, the Elac is a bit of a bargain. It was, in it's day, a decent turntable. Good, heavy platter, reasonable tone arm and should run for decades, after a good lube and service.
Dwizzle Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 Thanks Zaphod, good info, that gives me a better idea of where it is at. Time to have a play.
