SOLD: Supratek Cortese Preamplifier DOA

Recommended Posts

Item: Supratek Cortese Preamplifier

Location: Langwarrin

Condition: Fried

Price: $sold pending payment

Reason for selling: Needs someone else’s TLC

Payment: Cash - Pick-up

Extra Info: Shortening the umbilical with incorrect pin connection force fed the poor thing more than it could swallow. Consequently 10 blown transistors and a few resistors not showing what they should. All caps appear to be OK. The power supply is fine. After advertising this 9 months ago I withdrew it with the intention of working through this with my techies advice but it hasn’t happened and isn’t likely to now I have finally found a  replacement for it that I’m willing to surrender to in the same way as I had with the Cortese. Was working perfectly prior to the tragedy. Has been serviced 3 years ago with a few out of spec caps being replaced and the best available glass fitted shortly before with very low hours. Contrary to criticisms I have read of the phono stage I often deferred to it in lieu of far more costly options available. Prefer pick-up but I am willing to pack this for your arranged courier pick-up but will not post. This is not remotely controlled. Serial No.152, no idea how old, I have owned it for 5 years.

Thanks, know of Tony, enjoyed his ribbons for some time, just not willing to spend to have it resurrected as I already have a replacement.
