Ok so I replaced all my input and power tubes today and got me thinking about burn in? Interested on others opinions on if it makes a difference, if so, what is the logic for the change in sound?

Personally I have no opinion on it just more wondering what others have experienced/think...

The real question is a what point does burn in stop and wearing out starts :-)

Just listen and enjoy the tunes and some things aren't even worth worry about .

Just like your brand new car mate , when its new its not respond as smooth as when its drive around 10,000 km / 20,000km we call burn in and when more than 400,000 km we call wear out . Don't worry much about this just enjoy the music .

For me, once I get past the 50 hr mark it's pleasing, as the sound doesn't get too harsh for too long & the smooth comes back plenty fast....

Could have bought a nice little 300b instead! :(

Wow that's a load and a half ole boy-- I had a Quad set of the GL's Cryoed-and heard it took 600 Hrs for them to be come listenable(?) sold 'em- good luck trust yours come together sooner than that :thumb:

Burn-in?-- more Taming of the "Beasts"I'd say.

Yoh Bzr,

Thanks Matey--frankly if I hadn't had an offer I could not refuse on the Takatsuki's come up--I'd stuck with the EHarmonix's--glad I succumbed the the Tak's have raised the Amp several notches up the sonic scale--the inner detail retrieval and soundstage width is staggering.

I wonder how many Amps out there laboring under cost restraint stock tubes forced on the designer by his bean counters--?

I'd say in my case it'd be like taking a stock MB600 and having AMG do a full house number on it :D

And I agree, Duc - there's nothing better than a nice rack full of glowing tubes (with the room lighting lowered)! :thumb:

Weeeelll, I do actually have some 'glow', hyper.  I recently bought a special pair of tubes from Duc for my AKSA GK-2 preamp. :D  Even though they evidently have a life of 10,000 hours, their cost has caused me to switch off my preamp when I'm not listening it (before, with 'standard' tubes, I would leave it on 24x7).  When you do the maths, 10,000 hours is only 417 days (on continuously)! :(

I invite you to visit next time you're in Melbourne town, bzr, to hear how some ss amps (mine are AKSAs) can actually sound very good. :P  But, no - they don't look as gorgeous as those Mactones.

Regards,

Andy
