hyper Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Ok guys forgive me for what may seem a stupid question, long story short my McIntosh 2301 amp right channel died tonight and I decided to pull the fuse out and it looks blown, so I took the one out of left channel and the right amp worked so it's the fuse blown. Now my stupid question is how do I work out what fuse to change it with and where to get them? Only writing on the fuse is "buss gma4 and buss 125v" any ideas and where I can get em would be helpful! Any advice would be appreciated thanks guys Sorry for stupid question !

Guest Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Take the fuse into any Dick Smith or Jaycar store, or even a hardware store, and they should be able to sort you out. BTW it is commonly called and M205 F4A fuse (glass, 20mm long, 5mm diameter, fast blow, 4 amperes) which is enough information more most suppliers to give you the correct replacement. (You should refer to the back panel of your 2301 to determine the correct fuse size and rating, just in case an incorrect fuse has been fitted.) Edited October 16, 2014 by Guest
Zaphod Beeblebrox Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 As others have stated, you require an M205 size, 4 Amp, fast blow fuse. Don't worry about the Voltage rating. However, that part is not your major problem. A fuse is usually designed to blow in response to a catastrophic failure. It is likely that you have a serious problem with your amp. It may need to go to a tech.
Guest Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Sometimes what fails catastrophically is just the fuse. Especially if it is in the power supply and the amplifier was turned on - off - on in a few quick successions. A small fuse in an enclosed fuse holder stores heat and can blow second or third time around. Even a very brief touching of speaker wires can blow an output fuse if the amplifier has an audio signal at the time. However if it blows inexplicably, or blows again, refer to T's post above.
