jdog Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Hi all, over the weekend, i have picked up a used vintage valve amp.. it has 2x kt66 tubes, 4x 6j5 gt on the main amp section, and 1x 5as4 aj tube on the power section... it is 2 pieces power module and amp section and in between there is an umblical cord with 6 round pins (similar to tube bases) on the main body there are also 2x dials that show mA which i am assuming it is for bias adjustment..(they have the date of 1959 on it!) next to kt66 tubes there are 2x 6.3 mm (large socket) mono inputs... also next to the amp there is a pot and under it there is another socket for 6.3mm jack insert... i think this might be a monoblock, but this thing is very heavy... on the amp section there is a massive transformer and from the bottom it says "partridge transformers ltd type cfb/o/17" Anyone knows what this amp might be, and recommend me someone in sydney who can check if it is working or not? From the same place i have also picked up a few different bits and pieces (horn cells, compression drivers, tweeters etc) so i will be posting them with my silly questions shortly... 2
LogicprObe Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) Score! That's a mean looking amp.Anything underneath it? And what about the horn cells etc?.............and where did you score all this great stuff from? edit - sounds like old theatre gear to me. Edited September 22, 2014 by LogicprObe
VanArn Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 The amplifier is most likely to be based on the Williamson circuit since the Partridge O/P transformer appears to be a 10K Ohm P to P model. There is plenty of information on the internet for this amplifier model. 1
jdog Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) bottom of the power section.. bottom of the main section amp upside down (i am on mac and it is too hard to rotate it) i also got a 6 and an 8 cell horn.. one of the driver is western electric 30150 d which apparently is quite rare.. the other driver is relosound su-12... its a shame they are not a matching pair... but both works very well... horn with relosound driver western electric driver inside Edited September 22, 2014 by jdog 1

LogicprObe Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Weren't many stereo amps in those days! 1
Willco Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Looks Good find--good luck with the refurbish--yes anything with WE attached these days is Gold--I think! Willco 1
Owen Y Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 If that's a Partridge OPT, then it's a good score & should be sonically excellent - also worth $$ these days. My 2A3PP amp employs Partridges & it sounds v satisfacory indeed. Cheers, Owen Dark Lantern blog - http://darklanternforowen.wordpress.com/ 1
Owen Y Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Here's another example of PTX encased in the same UK Military/ruggedised Industrial style, oil-filled. Quality vintage stuff. Cheers, Owen Dark Lantern blog - http://darklanternforowen.wordpress.com/ 1
trobbins Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Did you get around to restoring the interesting Williamson amp and power supply? With the CFB style output transformer, the amp is circa 1951 onwards. The KT66's are most likely not original to the amp, as they are tan base ( >1952), and clear glass (>1961). The top-deck wiring is probably heater distribution, in an attempt to lower hum - that's definitely quirky! I've got two Williamson's nearly fully restored. Your amp looks like its from a nice kit - does it use aussie parts? Ciao, Tim

Inside the front dials, i can see a date of 1959 so guessing it would be the built date (or closer to it).. I am building a house so no time to get this restored.. will definitely get this restored and use it sometime this year tho Jahn Edited January 22, 2016 by jdog
