JT8 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 What are everyone's thoughts about the new Toyota/BMW collaboration ? I think it looks amazing but it is an odd pairing between manufacturers in terms of prestige. 1
Guest JohnA Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 if it looked like that and performance to match, i would purchase it in a heart beat
JT8 Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 if it looked like that and performance to match, i would purchase it in a heart beat Have you seen the dash ? It is absolutely insane !
hochopeper Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Have you seen the dash ? It is absolutely insane ! I care more about what is under the bonnet than how the dash looks ... got a link?
JT8 Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 Not much news on engine specs. But rumor is that it will have a V6 coupled with a hybrid system, similar to that of the i8 perhaps. Latest news on the car http://www.topgear.com/au/news/2014/08/14-ft-1/toyota-ft-1/toyota-ft-1-image-4
Darren69 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Love it. Harold Scruby just shuddered a bit. 1
betty boop Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 if it looked like that and performance to match, i would purchase it in a heart beat IF... I checked the motor trend link and the photo posted is just a render... so anyones guess what actually ends up looking like... http://wot.motortrend.com/1407_bmw_supra_takes_shape.html?__federated=1 I liked the original supra from the 90s, but not a fan of toyota styling of late, or the bmw z4 but never know this might be a turn in the right direction
Darren69 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Quick tangent, I am surprised I have not heard any loud pipes yet on an 86. The WRX's sure sound OK when upsetting the policemans and the hand wringers. Carry on.
Gordon Macfarlane Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 As a Supra for the new century it looks great as a Beamer replacement it is ugly compared to the current Z4 imo 1
Briz Vegas Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Quick tangent, I am surprised I have not heard any loud pipes yet on an 86. The WRX's sure sound OK when upsetting the policemans and the hand wringers. Carry on. Beat ya to it. Saw one only this afternoon burbling in the Bris-vegas burbs. 1
JT8 Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 Beat ya to it. Saw one only this afternoon burbling in the Bris-vegas burbs. Really ? Damn... I really wish Toyota would hurry up and stick a turbo on the 86, because without one it just seems to....normal

The WRX's sure sound OK when upsetting the policemans and the hand wringers. Carry on. 86's with exhausts sound different than the average 4 banger (due to the boxer configuration) but lack the deep throb of turbocharged Subies. The reason is the header design. The turbo models have unequal length headers, whilst the NA models are largely equal length. When you throw a set of aftermarket equal length headers on a turbo Subaru, the change in exhaust note (and the absence of the throb) is quite incredible. 1

Darren69 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Ah OK guys, ta for the advice. Am a bike type person, didn't know all that.
zipstartcanoe Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 shame the new WRX with its direct injected motor and low mount twin scroll turbo has lost the note...sounds like crap now. I'll take the increased throttle response and reduction in both spool and lag over a change in engine note everyday! 3

Sir Triode Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) Quick tangent, I am surprised I have not heard any loud pipes yet on an 86. The WRX's sure sound OK when upsetting the policemans and the hand wringers. Carry on. Probably because increasing the size and flow of the exhaust will cause a drop in torque down low (moving the power band further up the rev range) in its' 4 pot NA engine. One will have to rev the **** out of the engine to get it going with a larger exhaust thus affecting day to day driving. Edited August 19, 2014 by Sir Triode 1
