Just came across an old console in an antique store with a Collaro RC456 turntable, tuner and amplifier all looking to be in one piece. Unable to test it so was wondering whether it's a worthwhile project. Many parts about? That sort of thing. The laminate on the cabinet is only damaged in minor areas so not a major concern. And the price being asked seems to be very good.

Could be a bit of fun for the right price. The condition of the idler wheels would be the major concern. They can be refurbished. Would you rebuild the cabinet too?

@@Upfront, it was pretty damn cheap considering it hadn't been ratted for the amp etc like so many others.

Refinishing the cabinet wouldn't be too hard if you didn't try to match the missing pieces of laminate. Found that difficult before with old pieces. Anyway, all a pipe dream. I left the place I saw it at empty handed.

A lot to learn about but yeah if parts were readily available might make a good project. That's mainly the point I posted just to find out about parts.

Most of it (depending on actual condition) you should be able to clean up and grease/oil and be right to go. The rubber parts are the ones to watch out for.

The auto changer mech looks bloody complicated! Good luck with that one mate!

A vertical record player and an upside down radio......how cool is that. :)

Theres a local coffee shop that has an auto record changer. They just stack up some LP's and let them run for how ever long the records go for.

must have been hi tech in its day hey.

We had an auto changer when I was a kid. Fascinating for a sub 10yr old to watch.
