Jones99 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) Attended the Hong Kong Hifi show and thought I would share some photos of the event. I will hopefully add some comments and thoughts later . If anyone is interested in any of the photos specifically fire away. Edited August 14, 2014 by Jones99 2
Jones99 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Bling heaven no doubt...not all impressed me though some disappointing auditions/rooms mixed in with standouts and then some surprises.
teagle Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Only one pair of Rockport & no Gryphons to tempt you yet Jonesy! I'd have thought they would be there somewhere, perhaps Tasso is having a private viewing Have fun
Pops110 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 How did the Statement and the Q7s sound? I love the look of the Goldmunds for some strange reason? When you headin back to Perth? Cheers Dave.
analog brother Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 no trinity dac? and, what's up with all the taped enclosures? components get mobbed in hk?
hugo_wilco Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 …any systems at the show there under $500,000? 1

I'd have thought they would be there somewhere, perhaps Tasso is having a private viewing Have fun No Gryphon unfortunately...but I think I have that covered with the Solos and Mephisto. The Altairs with the VTLs was very very good for a show demo. Siegfried would be the only valve amp I have heard I could happily live with....and that is saying a lot for those that know my tastes

Cheers Dave. The combination was quite nice for show conditions. I expected more though something in the system was not quite to my tastes. I will be hearing the Q7s again soon so time will tell if the Big Magicos are the right fit for me. I suspect the Q7s were not at fault .....but time will tell. Not back in Oz for a very long time ..unfotunately. Though circumstances may change. Edited August 14, 2014 by Jones99
Willco Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Thank you indeed for the Pictures and comments and time to Post-- Yes the Asian $$--especially the mainland China surge in Hi End Audio-would have fueled the coffers of some of those Mfgs More's the pity some overpriced and underwhelming Products still take centre stage I note. Jones99 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) no trinity dac? and, what's up with all the taped enclosures? components get mobbed in hk? I did not see trinity unfortunately. I am heading back to HK again so will track it down then. The tape was a waste of time no one cared or noticed it .....components were mobbed . Cages around components would not have helped......crazy crowds that is for sure. Edited August 14, 2014 by Jones99

I think AE HK the Trinity Dudes amongst other stratospheric items(!) --Piano Tuner/etc had their showing the week previously. Willco
gemini07 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Nice - thanks. Buy anything? The Audia Flight Strumento 8 mono's weigh 125 kgs each (and put out 500W @ 8 ohms). The A/F pre-amp itself weighs 38 kgs. Excess baggage might be an issue, although if you can afford this gear you'd probably just chuck it in the back of the Lear.. Edited August 15, 2014 by gemini07
analog brother Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 thanks for all the pics, jonesey. did they use the 7.5 with the siegfried? sounds like a good match with the rockports. how did the 7 series soulutions sound on those critical mass stands? and the avant garde room looks nice!
analog brother Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 and those tesseracts look like quite intimidating in a supremely black way...

Nothing bought...pretty happy at the moment with Pandora and Mephisto combo .....Rockport and Magico will be in my future purchases down the track I suspect....maybe a darkhorse speaker may impress yet......hmmmm maybe a new DAC....gee could be an expensive trip back to HK...... Jones99 Posted August 15, 2014 Author Posted August 15, 2014 thanks for all the pics, jonesey. did they use the 7.5 with the siegfried? sounds like a good match with the rockports. how did the 7 series soulutions sound on those critical mass stands? and the avant garde room looks nice! I am pretty sure it was 7.5 . Hard to pick a fault with this system. Even in show conditions a very nice sound. The VTL gear is very impressive and combines with Rockport superbly.....I am told Gryphon and VTL are the amps of choice for Rockport.....mmmmmm ....as an owner of Gryphon certainly seems logical. The Soulution 701s driving the Sonja 1.3 was a nice sound. A bit more meat and flesh to me than previous Soulution models(owned 710 and 721) with all the previous traits. I liked the sound of the Sonjas and may revisit. Not a big fan of the looks and I thought other speakers/systems had the edge... The Avant Garde room looked very impressive but was my biggest disappointment due to high expectations. I have heard this speaker before and both times have been average showings. I hope to hear these sing one day as they have a big reputation. Perhaps it was the electronics driving them....who can say ...
