Prana69 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Item: Massive collection of Beatles Albums, Solo albums, Limited edition CD Box sets, Picture discs, Trading cards, Stamps, Mini CDs Location: Mordialloc, Victoria Price: Offers around $4500 (Will give a $200 donation to SNA) Item Condition: Most of these items are Mint or Near Mint. Many albums look like they have never been played. Many are still sealed. All Covers and Records have been visually graded. Reason for selling: This collection belonged to the husband of a friend. He was, as you will guess, a mad Beatles fan. He passed away recently from cancer of the spine. His wife told me that after he was diagnosed, collecting these items became the one thing that continued to give him joy. It was his escape from the reality of his life and, I suspect, the inevitability of his death. I think that explains why there are multiple copies of the same album - in the case of St. Pepper's LHCB - 9 in total, including 2 x picture discs! Over the course of his collecting, his wife reckons he spent close to $15 000 on this obsession. And judging by the sticker prices on some of these items, I'm not surprised. There are 2 x sealed VHS collections of "The Beatles Anthology" which are individually priced at $239.95 and the 7" Single Live Collection at $329.99. The Gold Trading card set at $199. Some albums have sticker prices of $125 and many are in the $50-100 bracket. There are approx 130 Beatles albums and 90 Solo albums, interview albums, live recordings, plus a number of memorabilia items including limited edition (numbered) box sets. There are many coloured vinyls as well as Japanese, UK, US, French, German, Italian, Canadian, Belgian and, of course, Australian pressings - many of these first release Oz pressings. Quite a few rare picture discs too. I am hoping to sell the collection as one lot. I simply don't have time to break it up into individual units. I figured there might be a Beatles collector on SNA who has an eye for the rarities here, a store owner or someone who has more time than me and is prepared to buy the lot and break it up into individual lots to make some money on individual sales. I have linked to an Excel spreadsheet at Dropbox (hopefully it works) where you can view the list. https://www.dropbox.com/s/d8t1c15e08fsoyf/Beatles%20Collection_Offer.xls It is tabbed. First tab is: "Vinyl - Complete" for the complete list. Second tab is: "Vinyl - RARITIES" Third tab is: "CD" Fourth tab is: "Memorabilia" I have provided a fairly detailed description of each item including Country of release, year of release label and condition. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank transfer, COD Only Extra Info: Prospective Melbourne buyers are welcome to view the collection by appointment.Pictures: Below. Thanks DaveR 7
wolster Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Wow! What a collection. This would sell in a minute on eBay. GLWTS. I hope you get a quick result for your bereaved friend.
Peter_F Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) I don't like filling a FS thread with dribble, but I am really impressed with this collection. Just outstanding mate. Edited August 11, 2014 by flemo
Hiền Đổ Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Been ringing up one bank after another for a personal loan to finance this!!!
Flynnyfalcon Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) Best of luck finding a rightful owner Dave. An enviable collection like no other. Edited August 11, 2014 by Flynnyfalcon
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted August 11, 2014 Volunteer Posted August 11, 2014 Wow! What a collection. This would sell in a minute on eBay. GLWTS. I hope you get a quick result for your bereaved friend. I wonder whether you wouldn't get a better price at auction on ebay ? 2
firefly0071 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 If you put it as a worldwide sale, you would potentially get a higher price. Locally,it's a small market.
Prana69 Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 Thanks for the comments and feedback. I am currently considering whether it might be better to go ebay for a wider market - as suggested. Though I hate paying them a 10% commission! if I end up selling on ebay I will still make a donation to SNA. Thanks DaveR 1
Zaphod Beeblebrox Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Much as I would love to acquire several items (the Japanese pressings are particularly interesting), I agree with others' comments. International eBay should secure some eye-watering bids.

International eBay should secure some eye-watering bids. If selling internationally it would be sensible to get advance advice about secure packaging and insurance cover, and placing onus for these costs on the buyers... LPs need to be packed carefully to protect against transit damage and many of these will be high-priced items.
Prana69 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) If selling internationally it would be sensible to get advance advice about secure packaging and insurance cover, and placing onus for these costs on the buyers... LPs need to be packed carefully to protect against transit damage and many of these will be high-priced items. That is good advice. Can I get some recommendations on reliable international shipping / couriers for this type of collection? On a separate note - on the advice of many SNA members who suggested that the asking price was too low for such a collection, I have now listed the collection on ebay. Don't freak out when you see the price!!!! I am not expecting to get it and would be very suspicious of anyone who actually offered the list price. I am just seeking offers. Here is the link, and following is how I responded to an SNA member who sent me an offer earlier and was then a bit put out by my ebay listing.: http://www.ebay.com....tm/301275995788 _________ No I am not being greedy. And no, I don't expect someone to pay the asking price. As I explained in the previous PM, I really don't know what this collection is worth. I know that the owner probably spent close to $25 000 over the years he was collecting it. But I am not a big Beatles fan, so my knowledge of it's value is poor. A number of SNA members said I was offering it at too low a price. Like I said, I don;t know enough about the Beatles or the items to gauge the true value. They suggested I try the approach of listing it on ebay to attract a wider market, but putting the price high to encourage people to make offers. It is impossible to gauge it's value based on two offers from SNA members. In the end, the collection is only worth what the market is prepared to pay. That may end up being $xxxx. In which case, as the first person to offer that price, you'll have yourself a sensational collection which, according to many people around here who know better than I do, will apparently be a bargain basement price. Thanks for the GLWTS David _______ Should I keep the listing open here, or would it be more appropriate to "No Longer Available" it? I don't want people to feel like I am gouging or something. Prana69 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Thanks for your interest and advice everyone. I am going to end this listing as "No Longer Available" as it is now listed at ebay. I will continue to communicate with members who have expressed an interest in the collection. Thanks DaveR
