robin-hobart Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Hopefully I'm not duplicating an existing subject - had a quick look but couldn't find anything. I have a great admiration & respect for the "Post Some Pics" thread - the technical skills of members, the subject matter & the quality of the shots is often breath-taking. Whereas my intent here is far more amateur, whimsical and more of the iPhone point-and-click variety. I find there is a nostalgic poignancy to old car graveyards. Someone's once brand-new, shiny, pride and joy reduced to rust. Not the very concise and brilliant "memento mori" perhaps, but still a metaphor for the worth of possessions and, very often, life itself. These couple from our near-by, disused Giblin St Quarry, Hobart Not sure even Messrs Clarkson or Glenister could resurrect this one Prof. Thought to be an FC/FE Holden from the late 1950's. Possibly and old Morris Oxford or Wolesley ...... Close inspection suggests it will require, as a minimum, a new bell-housing. ....... which may, in the depths of time, have made the abrupt descent from the top. 6
shaky Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Sorry no photos but a tale: Used to live in the Dandenongs in Melbourne, in Monbulk, as a teen. Our house was situated along the top of a tee intersection with a very steep decline towards it from the road that stopped at the tee. We had a large gully with a creek in it along the front of out land full of eucalypts and ferns and once I started exploring down there after we moved in I found, opposite that steep down hill slope, a few old vehicles that presumably had had some braking issues coming down the hill. There were two old cars, a couple of carts (as in the horse and cart variety) with big wooden wheels (thankfully no horses were found) and a bike. My brother ended up with the bike. We dragge one cartwheel out of the bush but the rest remained in their new 'garage'.
robin-hobart Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Tractors are fine Nothing mechanical excluded... Love the shot. Only one query - How did you do that? Up-close focus and background as well? Split diopter? Clever blighter! 1

Split diopter? Clever blighter! Thanks robin, but nothing very clever - just a tripod and long focal length/low shutter speed - the tractor wasn't going anywhere in a hurry :) Cheers Mick

Soundscape Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Wagga?Nice. I owe you a cigar. The old bridge over the Murrimbidgee, I forget its name. It's a couple hundred metres from where my Oma lives in Sth Wagga. Slated for demolition. 1
TomAus Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 It's not too far from the golf course, I believe. The in-laws used to live in Wagga so have passed the bridge a few times. The main attraction for me in Wagga was always visiting Thirsty Crow 2
betocool Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 One of my trips across WA, from Perth to Wave Rock. It took me some time to realize that Dog in Aute was actually Dog in a UTE. And it took the friendly attendant at the Corrigin petrol station and Wikipeda to explain what "Dog in a UTE" was. A most enjoyable journey! Alberto 2
Guest Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Ooo can I play? I looooove old car wrecks. People look at me funny and say "It's just an old car". I see fun, laughter, someone's pride and joy, trips to the beach, roadtrips etc. If you don't think this one is looking at you, I pity your lack of imagination... Someone mentioned Corrigin...

Guest Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 A few random shots of machine parts... I used to do garden maintenance at an earthmoving machine repair/spare parts place a few years back.
Guest Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) Think I posted this in that other thread but here it is again. This old van would DEFINITELY have a few stories to tell... I find it interesting that it still has all the letters left. Edited August 14, 2014 by Dirty_vinylpusher

Jake Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Thredbo. Original looked a little washed out so I've been playing a bit. Yeah, probably overdid it but I'm tired now and it's late. 2
