SETfan Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 For reluctant sale is a pair of classic Celestion SL6si vintage bookshelf 2 way speakers, with 6" woofer and 1.25" tweeter. If you have ever heard these speakers, you will know the "you are there" sound quality they produce. I run them very well with a 30 watt valve amplifier, and they deserve quality amplification to bring out their holographic sound. * Location: Adelaide. Willing to ship interstate at buyers expense. I bought these from the UK, and they were shipped safely without issue (although it cost me plenty!). * Item condition description: The original drivers are in in perfect working condition, both cosmetically and acoustically, and sound amazing. The cabinets, made of real wood, are in fairly good condition but do have a few marks as you can see in the photos. On the back, there are 3 small screw holes (where a previous owner must have wall mounted them!) but fortunately this doesnt affect the sound so I never bothered to seal or fix these (could do with with silastic or blutak). Being real wood, they should be easy to give a touch up to or be resprayed cheaply if aesthetically desired, but I like their appearance just as they are. * Price $500* Reason for selling Too many speakers! * Payment Methods: Cash- Pickup, or bank transfer. More Information: Internal Volume: 12 litres / 0.4 cubic feetImpedance: 8 OhmsAmplifier Requirements: 25-120 Watts (continuous sinewave output)Sensitivity: 1 watt at 1 metre produces 84 dB SPLPower Rating: 120 WattsCrossover: 2.8 kHz third order high pass, second order low passLow Frequency Performance: -3dB at 75Hz -6dB at 60Hz (free space)Cabinet Dimensions: 376mm(14.75")H x 200mm(7.75")W x 268mm(10.5")DWeight: 84kg(18.5lbs/ea)Recommended Stand: 610mm(24")HThis is a carefully tuned infinite-baffle design, sacrificing ultimate extension for upper-bass and lower-midrange quality. Its crossover is conventionally British in that it puts flatness of on-axis amplitude response ahead of time coherence, while everything about it, from drive-units to the cabinet itself, is flagrantly "high-tech."The drive-units appear identical to those used in the older speaker: the 32mm copper-dome tweeter is formed in one piece with the coil former, the latter then acting as a shorted turn in the magnet gap to damp the driver's low-frequency resonance. The woofer, constructed on a diecast basket, is also a high-tech device, its flared PVC cone being developed with the aid of laser interferometry to ensure good pistonic motion throughout the driver's passband, the radiating area being said to decrease smoothly with increasing frequency. There is no separate dustcap as such; the cone is of a piece with an inverted dome, this again determined, via laser interferometry, to be optimal. 1
Guest 322 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hi @@SETfan, I'm guessing that the ES14's you picked up are keepers ?
djb Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) Mmmm love these old classic British speakers Alas I have the same problem: too many speakers Edited August 8, 2014 by djb
SETfan Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 (edited) Thanks, yes they are indeed a very special speaker and I am highly reluctant to part with them! Egg, I kept changing my mind each time I A/B'd the Celestions and the Epos! I think the Celestions are the "better"speaker - smoother treble, tighter and better defined bass, more spookily real sounding, but the Epos get my toes tapping more on heavier rock music and I am prepared to accept their slight brightness and woollier bass for this style of music. But if the Celestions dont sell and I do further A/B'Ãng then I reserve my right to change my mind and sell the Epos instead, as they really are a very special speaker!
