wolster Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 As mentioned here before, I am a big fan of the HiFi Man RE 400s. They have a great balance of range and dynamics and can be used for a lengthy time without fatigue. I also enjoy the degree of sound isolation they provide for air travel. My only criticism is build quality. I am now on my third pair, fortunately all under warranty. Headphonics, here in Perth have been brilliant in handling these issues. So I got to thinking that my increased running might be a part of the problem and that I should get a cheaper pair for my early morning exercise. Last week I bought some Sens CX300 Travel canal phones They were on special from one of our sponsors at less than half retail price. Well they are certainly impressive in build. They have a great flexible rubber carry case and sound excellent - except for the bass. To me it just seems a little too dominant. Maybe it will settle with time but, for now I find them hard to use for any length of time. My other purchase was a pair of SoundMagic E10s. Bought only due to the positive reviews I had read. Headphonics were out of stock so bought them on eBay from Hong Kong for a mere $34. They arrived today and I have them on now as I type. That's why I started this thread. I can't believe how good these are for the price. They have better bass than the RE400s but it is in punchy and not overpowering. The mids and highs also seem just right. They also seem well constructed and have seven pairs of silicone ear tips to enable you to get the right fit. They also come with a neat hard cover. Looking forward to see how they travel when I hit the park in the morning but, so far, I am impressed big time. 1

surprisetech Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Build quality and tangling cords can both be a pain with earbuds in general. I finally settled on a pair of Audio Technica ATH-CK313M canal phones for a similar price to those SoundMagic E10s and have been really happy with them in every respect. Especially the cord!
Brendo09 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 I've got ... 4, 5 different pairs? Dual dynamic drivers, double balanced armatures, and a fun bassy single driver. I love them all. I have to wear them over the ear though, I like to push them right in deep, and I can't get the angle right with the cable below the ear. And I struggle with the silicon tips, but Comply's are magnificent, although they do wear out pretty quick if you're using them frequently.

migasson Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 I've got my old CX300's as you know Wolster. Never had too much of an issue with the bass.. but we know what goes into your eardrums depends on the shape of your ear canal!! Yeah, they're a little warm, but thats not a bad thing from my point of view. I do have some more mid-centric ATH-IM02's as well.. they're great, and my main IEM's. the CX300's are the bombproof backups.. they just don't die! had them for what, 9 years!!
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted August 7, 2014 Volunteer Posted August 7, 2014 How do you find running with IEMs ? I would have thought A) they'd be noisy - I mean 'internal ' noise, the sound of your own breathing, and B) they may be a bit dangerous as you need to be able to hear traffic or bikes/pedestrians whilst running
