O.Sydney
The August 2014 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. For August, we will have a great system for you courtesy of distributor Network Audio Visual (refer to http://networkav.com.au/) and retailer Pymble HiFi (refer to http://www.pymblehifi.com.au/). On the day, we will have guest presenters Claver Harper and <name supressed> from Network Audio Visual as well as Kyle Fairhall from Pymble HiFi. The system will be comprised of: Aurender W20 Music Server – Refer to http://www.pymblehifi.com.au/shop/aurender-w20-music-playback-and-storage-solution/ and http://www.aurender.com/w20.html. The Aurender W20 supports up to 24-bit, 192kHz playback on the SPDIF outputs and is compatible with DSD, WAV, FLAC, AIFF and other major formats. The Aurender W20 is designed to be used as a reference music server and player for the best performing audio systems and properly tagged high resolution digital music collections. It has many unique and creative engineering solutions to eliminate jitter and noise and accurately transmit digital audio signals to high performance discrete digital-to-analog converters. Parasound CD1 bit perfect CD player – refer to http://networkav.com.au/portfolio/parasound-halo-cd-1/ and http://www.parasound.com/halo/cd1.php. The ROM drive spins four times faster than a CD drive. The CD is read and analysed multiple times until every bit is read faithfully. The audio bitstream comes from an immense memory buffer, not directly from the CD. Parasound P5 stereo preamplifier – refer to http://networkav.com.au/portfolio/p5-2-1-channel-stereo-preamplifier-halo-parasound-networkav/ and http://www.pymblehifi.com.au/shop/parasound-p5-2-1-channel-stereo-preamplifier. The P5 uses Burr-Brown PCM1798 DACs with USB, optical and coax inputs. Coax and optical accept all sampling rates up to 192 kHz, 24-bit. USB accepts up to 96 kHz, 24-bit. Parasound JC1 400 watt monoblocks – refer to http://networkav.com.au/portfolio/jc-1-single-channel-power-amplifier-halo-parasound/ and http://www.pymblehifi.com.au/shop/parasound-jc1-mono-power-amplifier-halo-range. These are premier monaural amplifiers designed by the legendary John Curl. They utilize ultra-high bias Class A/AB operation. Legacy Focus SE Speakers – refer to http://www.pymblehifi.com.au/shop/legacy-focus-se-speakers/ and http://www.legacyaudio.com/products/view/focus-se/. These are large floorstanders, standing at 140cm high. They now have a narrower but deeper cabinet and are more inert and designed to avoid parallel surfaces. Even the grille has been sculpted to prevent diffractions. The driver tolerances are a stringent +/-0.25 dB of the target function. They use Solen metallized polypropylene capacitors imported from France as bypasses in the high frequency network and braided silver cable by Ray Kimber for the upper ribbon. As a final assurance, each speaker has a hand-tune final crossover network, before being certified with a Silver Edition (SE) owner’s certificate. Clarus Crimson cables – refer to www.claruscables.com and http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0714/clarus_crimson_bi_wire_speaker_cable.htm, and http://www.soundstagehifi.com/index.php/equipment-reviews/746-clarus-crimson-speaker-cables-interconnects-power-cords-and-digital-cables. Every Crimson cable features an innovative multi-gauge design that uses three different-shaped conductor types - each individually insulated - resulting in superior bass, midrange and high frequencies. In addition to ultra-low-distortion PCOCC, Crimson cables are made with precision-formulated polyethylene (PE) insulation providing low loss, superior imaging and maximum sound definition. The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on CD only. Sorry, no vinyl or flash drives this month. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind. Guests are always welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door. henry218
It was a good meeting. Relax with plenty of music from different genre, no "strange" music though (as i usually experienced from previous meetings) The system was quite enjoyable, although the speakers have bass issues, not sure because of the room and positioning combo, or its just tuned rather heavy on bass that made it boomy (although it sounded like too much bass level).
