500-550 litre fridges preferred frost free

Recommended Posts

The hinge that has a duty of the both doors has given way and broke off this morning. It's a Westinghouse RJ 532S. It's well over 10years old and this will be the 2nd time it's failed. The 1st time was due to a fan that died outside warranty which I got hold of via the distributor and replaced it myself.

It still works and everything that's stored on the doors are now removed to reduced weight so they can be held on via the magnetic seals.

Westinghouse or Electrolux are very good at spare parts, I have found if they don't have it they normally get in for you in 30-90 days. Most of there products are similar and parts are identical but not all of course as they vary over the years. I was still able to obtained parts for a 25year old Hoover washing machine.

If this hinge is not available, I'm going to have to get a new fridge. This is a 530lt unit that fits in a 1 x 1.8m max cavity. So what is out there in this size that people are happy with?

Get someone to fix the hinge if that's all that's wrong with the fridge ^_^

Looks like a 5 minute job.

A few weld tacks and it will be good for another 10 years.

Or try a local whitegoods repair shop.

Someone somewhere will have a hinge like that.

That hinge should still be available.

They usually use the same one on a number of models.

What's your model number?

Many thanks LP,

I'm gonna say it: "WTF: it's $49.00....." And that doesn't include shipping! For a piece of tiny metal :(

However cheaper than buying a new fridge, hopefully it doesn’t give the better 1/2 and excuse to do so......

I have one, but you cant have it as its still being used. :)

Great fridge, chills a beer in the freezer in 20minutes flat, cant leave it much longer cause it freezers up.

Got to keep them off the circuit to the hifi stuff cause the bloody motor cut on/off makes a terrible spike and POPS! everything really bad.

local councils recently had fridge buyback schemes

there might be a graveyard of fridges tucked away somewhere nearby with a door that matches yours

see if your local council might provide the number of either the graveyard or the scrap merchant they send them too

check this place, in noble park on princess hwy

ring them. then go in pick up the part. though you'll prob still pay $49 for it I suspect. remember with spares its not only the cost of the item you pay for but also the cost of holding these parts for years on end ... for just someone like yourself to come along wanting it :)

The better 1/2 freaked out when she got back from work and demanded we went looking for a new fridge. So we are looking at the Westinghouse 700 lt $1700and the Samsung 710 lt $2000 duel vertical doors, no ice crusher as that unit takes up almost 1/2 the freezer and she doesn't see the benefit of it. The Samsung has a duel compressor and LED lamps down the entire length of the compartment. Can't believe the shelves are made of glass on every fridge we looked at.

Aren't you a photocopy repair man?

And you're gonna throw away a perfectly good appliance for the sake of a $50 spare part?

This makes no sense to me.

Yep and I get paid peanuts,

I'm going to make some enquiries tomorrow, only if I had a welder! The better 1/2 wants a 2nd fridge. Why aren't these guys open on weekends, I would have got the part and she wouldn't know any better.

Mr P

Check out the Sharp fridges that's what I wanted but lost the battle with the better half , we ended up with a fish & pickle :-( . But they took a $1K off the price to match the Sharp .

Cheers

I like the Sharp as well, how and where did you get $1k off the price, these guys are taking a $50-200 bucks off!

Geez for the sake of a 50 buck part you are shopping around for a 700 litre fridge. The power company will be very happy if you go down that route.

Anyway as the old bank commercial used to say "it's your money Ralph"

There you go, I'm not spending $20k, because I'm a copier tech :(
