Shaggyshan
Hi Guys/Gals, I have recently had Inteligent Home update my smart wiring plan to include wiring for 4 ceiling atmos speakers. Looking at the plan, it would seem that they have suggested placing them right in the corners of the room. It was my uneducated understanding that the placement of these speakers would be further in from all the walls. I have attached a copy of the updated smart wiring plan. I would greatly appreciate it if you could have a look and pass on any suggestions or advice that you may have, for that specifically or anything else you may have noticed with the plan. I'm not sure if it matters, but there will be 2 rows of seating. I had also asked about what type of HDMI cable was going to be placed to connect to the projector (I was getting a JVC X500, but will now be purchasing a Sony VPL-VW500ES) and he informed me that I would not require the latest and best type (2.0 I think..?). I would also greatly appreciate you advice in this matter. Thanks in advance! Shan Smart Wire Plan.pdf
betty boop
not sure if your trying to future proof with 4K or something but the 500es will set you back quite a bit, and it isn't fully upto hdmi v2.0 spec http://www.trustedreviews.com/sony-vpl-vw500es_Projector_review have you seen the jvc and sony to compare ? its worth checking out. just to make sure you are spending money and getting what you want. I wouldn't have thought speakers in 4 corners of the room would suit atmos as they have shown. while there is little info from dolby so far …see the dolby atmos thread where info from their blog is posted showing speaker locations. re hdmi cables there are no more any hdmi version numbers for cables only current high speed. I would resist a very long cable. keep around 10m if can. and use a standard 10m like this one here, I use one of them at $50. http://www.thecableconnection.com.au/10-metre-HDMI-Cable---TCC-Platinum---High-Speed-with-Ethernet-Full-HD-1080p-Digital-.html for your reference, http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/4k.aspx

Sadly the Sony wont come with a warranty, but at that price, worth the investment. I will have another look at the atmos thread to try and get a better idea of where to ask to have the cable placed. From the sound of your reply, it would appear as though they would definitely be in the wrong spot.. Thanks for the links regarding the HDMI cable, I will check it out now. betty boop
I would under no circumstance buy a projector without a warranty. especially for one the kind you will be paying for. projectors are quite finicky things. quite prone to failure. and quite commonly can get damaged in transit turn up DOA. a warranty is literally worth the projectors weight in gold. please if you are buying a grey import. consider carefully. if there is one thing I would highly recommend buying local and with a local warranty it would be a projector. $1000 more for the sony and one without warranty ? I wouldn't personally…but it is your money your call at end of it.
